SAMUEL (SAM) LEMOINE February 21, 1931 - December 23, 2014 Peacefully after a short illness, our beloved husband, father and friend passed into the arms of God on December 23, 2014 at the age of 83. Sam was predeceased by his parents Antoinette (née Thibault) and Edgar; his brothers Jean and Henri and his sisters Jeanne Lemoine and Henriette Rocan. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 51 years, Irene (née Daeninck), his sons Marc (Sandi) and Paul, along with many nieces and nephews. Sam was born in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba, the youngest of five children. He lost his father Edgar at age five and as a result family became very important to him, especially his mother Antoinette who raised him. After graduating from St. Paul's, Sam went to work for the Canadian Grain Commission. As a young man, this offered him the opportunity to work in major ports across Canada including Churchill and Montreal. It is also where he met a beautiful young stenographer named Irene, with whom he would share the rest of his life. In 1965, he accepted an offer to work for Manitoba Pool Grain Elevators, where he spent the remainder of his career, moving up to manage the grain inspection area. Dad was always involved heavily with whatever he did and work was no exception. While at MB Pool, he spent 21 years as a member of the Grain Appeal Tribunal, served as President of the MB Pool Credit Union and as an executive of the workplace association. His personal likes were wide and varied, with one common theme, which was being with others. He organized and planned events for both the Heather's Senior Golf at Windsor Park and the Heather Senior Men's curling league. He setup regular Sunday brunch outings, often for up to 20, and enjoyed weekday morning coffee with his many friends at the St. Anne's McDonalds. Dad was also a horse owner at Assiniboia Downs and immensely enjoyed having friends come out to watch his colts run and occasionally join him for a picture in the winner's circle. Even his gardening was a shared event and he took great pride in providing tomatoes to all who came by. Dad had a strong belief in the virtue of hard work and serving others, and lived true to this belief his entire life. Thanks to the caring staff of St. Boniface Hospital/Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sam's memory to the Manitoba Riding for the Disabled Association, 145 Pacific Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6, 204-925-5905 (www.mrda.cc) or to your favourite charity. A service for Sam will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Holy Cross Church, 252 Dubuc St. with Reverend Monsignor Comeault presiding. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

  • My wife Michelle and I feel so privileged to know Sam. He was always kind, thoughtful and helpful. Many a time we recall Sam coming and sitting down on our porch with our dog Spy. • I am Linda Freeman the oldest daughter of George Light who was a dear friend of Sam's. My Dad passed away 3 yrs ago and while we stayed in his apartment for 5 weeks, Sam & Irene came to visit and took us to one of the Brunch's at St. Boniface Golf Course. Brian used to join George at McDonald's and meet up with Sam and the others when we visited from Alberta. He truly was a wonderful person and my Dad talked highly of him all the time. Sam took my Dad everywhere when he couldn't drive much. They had fond memories of going to Assiniboine Park for entertainment and to see the horse races. I have a blue jacket that Dad bought from Sam I think it was a fund raiser for his horses. We are very sorry Irene and family for your loss.
