Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I will always remember Edith as a wonderful parishioner and supporter. Edith's bright eyes always lit up my heart. I will cherish the story of the snaw falling - about Frau Holle schootel die fiedern aus (please excuse the spelling) We always had a good laugh. I will miss her at the Golden Agers Aggravation table. She had her special dice and was always very gracious. We have entrusted Edith to God's grace and mercy. Amen. - Posted by: Kolleen Karlowsky-Clark (pastor) on: Dec 30, 2014

  • Omi...I will miss you terribly. As far back as my conscious memory goes, you have been a (important) part of my life!! And even though I know you are, & always will be, there with & for me, I can't imagine my life without you in it. Here is one of many examples of the significant role you played in my life from the very beginning, & even though I don't consciously remember it, Mom can attest to it (I don't think she ever told Dad either!!)...I was about 1 1/2 years old & I was playing in our front yard on Walker Avenue; I decided I wanted to visit you, so while Mom had her back turned, I climbed the fence, walked (probably ran!!) up the street to Osborne, crossed Osborne Street & found my way to your's & Opi's house on Maplewood. Mom was in a panic, frantically looking for me, when you telephoned her to ask why I was at their front door without you. Funny now, but at the time very scary for Mom...but this story shows how significant you were in my life from early on...after all, how does a 1 1/2 year old decide she wants to visit her Omi, figures out how to do it, & then does it, unless that Omi meant something to her :) Some of my fondest childhood memories are of Christmas Days spent at your Maplewood home, but there are no fonder memories for me than those of our years spent together at Red Rock Lake. I remember how happy I was when you & Opi finally moved back to Winnipeg from Montreal...I missed you during those years, as did Mom. I remember you teaching me how to braid hangers...I still have so many of them from you! I haven't braided a hanger in years, & I'm sure I have forgotten how, but you are not here to give me the refresher lessons I need, & that makes me so very sad. I will miss your vanilla pudding with the egg whites...one of my Dad's favorites too! And with the Johannisbeeren Saft, it was THE BEST :) Thank you, Omi, for the wonderful memories we made together in Germany when you met me in Stuttgart after my student exchange experience was over...so we could travel together to visit Oma & other family members...that was such a special time for us :) I will forever treasure sharing the German version of The Lord's Prayer with you daily while you were in the hospital. I looked forward to it everyday, & I will miss saying it with you...but I will continue to say it daily for you, Omi. Even though you are physically gone from us, I know you are whole & healthy & happy...& you are not alone :) I look forward to one day once again being with you. Until then Omi, "Denn dein ist das Reich und die Kraft und die Herrlichkeit in Ewigkeit"...Amen. Ich Liebe Dich, Omi...deine Karin (deine Alteste Enkelkind) - Posted by: Karin (Proud Granddaughter) on: Dec 27, 2014
