DR. ZENON MICHAEL SOSNOWSKI (MSC, PHD) On Sunday, December 21, 2014, Dr. Zenon Michael Sosnowski (MSc, PhD) passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years, after a long battle with cardiovascular disease. Left to forever cherish Zenon's memory are his two sons, Emil-Peter and Zenon Jr. (Sherry and Michael); his sister-in-law, Danuta Yannopoulos; and his wife, Genowefa. On January 1, 1931, Zenon was born in Krasne, Poland, to Rozalia and Bazyli Sosnowski. In his youth, he supported his family by selling newspapers and cigarettes to soldiers fighting on both sides of the Eastern front. During this time, Zenon developed his proficiency in the German, Russian, and Ukrainian languages. After the war, he sailed the world with the German Merchant Marine. In the 1950s, Zenon developed an interest in the medical sciences while working at an American field hospital in Nuremberg. In 1964, he immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada, where he discovered his love for medical research at the Children's Hospital, and General Hospital of Winnipeg. In 1967, Zenon married his wife, Genowefa, who supported his pursuit for higher learning. During the 1970s, Zenon's passion for research led him to the University of Manitoba, where he lectured medical students at St. Boniface Hospital's Satellite Lab. Zenon's work with the University provided him with a strong footing to pursue independent research. This ultimately led to the foundation of his company in the 1980s, and his completion of two PhDs (biochemistry and microbiology). During this time, the results of Zenon's research saw growth in the natural health product market, and the company that he founded truly started to flourish. Zenon loved his work, and therefore never fully retired, working passionately until the time of his death. Zenon was a loving husband and devoted father, and will be fondly remembered by all that knew him. The Rosary will be prayed on Monday, December 29, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, with Rev. Fr. Dominic Yuen, presiding. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. Zenon was very appreciative of the care he received by the medical staff of 6E at St. Boniface Hospital, who went above and beyond to care for him in his time of need. As a devout Catholic, it was Zenon's wish for donations to be made to Missionaries of Charity Inc., 167 Aikins Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 4G1, in lieu of flowers. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB 204.586.8668, in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

  • I was sad today to hear of Dr. Zenon's passing. I had the opportunity to work with him in the 1970's at McPhillips Medical. His zest for life and passion for research will never be forgotten. I was fortunate to reconnect with him a few years ago with my partner Val Synenko. He truly was a remarkable man. My sympathy to you and your family. - Posted by: lorraine krywy (friend) on: Dec 27, 2014
