  • Dear Shirley and Family: Extending our family's deepest sympathy to you all as you cope with such a loss. We will treasure the memory of Louis being a big part of our lives when he embarked on his mentoring and leadership journey, through the times when he inspired the people and community and showed us what could be accomplished with hard work, education, dedication, and passion. His energy and influence was far-reaching. May the Creator give you strength in the days, weeks and months to come. • I am so sorry to hear of Louis' death. I remember him when he worked for Indian Affairs. Later during the "confrontational "days on the picket line at the corner of Smith and Portage, when he was always courteous and friendly to the DIAND personnel who were just getting on with their jobs. I met him many times, professionally and privately over the years, and he never varied in his friendly, determined way. My condolences to his family, and to the fine people of Peguis. - Posted by: Michael Kirkpatrick (longtime colleague-Indian Affairs) on: Dec 30, 2014

  • It is said, the mark of a true leader is measured by their integrity and character. Louis changed and influenced the lives of many through his leadership, but it was his care and compassion towards others that made him an exceptional leader. My family and I will remember Louis fondly as a caring and genuine human being and friend. To the family, know the community will be mourning with you. "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint". - Posted by: Arlene & Carey Frazier (Friends) on: Dec 30, 2014

  • I met Louis Stevenson when I was working in a factory for jeans, and I started evening school, which I thought I couldn't make it so I quit school. One day to my surprise Mr. Stevenson come to my work place and talked me back to school, I'll never forget what he said to me " do you want to work here all your life or make a better life for yourself, quit this job and educate yourself please" I was so impressed that he cared so much not even knowing me. I always meant to thank him for caring and his guidance for my future, I got to work for Manitoba Health for 34 years. RIP Louis Stevenson. Condolences to the Stevenson Family, my prayers are with you. - Posted by: Evelyn (Courchene) Lapensee (friend) on: Dec 29, 2014

  • Chief Louis Stevenson was an iconic leader in Mb. First Nations politics; working for much needed change and better lives for our peoples. I worked with F.N Confederacy as a CFS advisor-writer-policy analyst in the 80's and, as one of the staff, I witnessed he was a shrewd negotiator, and supportive of all staff and of our community peoples. Creator/Che-Manitou bless your spirit. E.M. Isaac - Posted by: Elaine M. Isaac (worked for Chiefs including Louis Stevenson) on: Dec 29, 2014

  • As his phys ed teacher in F.B, I remember Chief Louis in my class and as a gym student he already displayed a "cut above" the rest character in high school. His leadership and accomplishments in the Peguis community and for his people will be a lasting legacy. - Posted by: H.KOLADA (HIGH SCHOOL PHYS ED TEACHER) on: Dec 29, 2014

  • Chief Stevenson will be remembered by many and especially by me as one of the greatest First Nation leaders of our time. I will miss him dearly. He was a great man and a great mentor. Louis came into my life at a very early age, as my guidance counselor in High School. He seen so much in our young people and provided so much guidance and direction. Louis gave me the confidence to reach for the stars and now I work for the AMC, an organization he started. May Creator guide him now in the Spirit World and give him the peace he so rightfully deserves. My heart and prayers are with the Stevenson Family. - Posted by: Ardell Cochrane (Friend) on: Dec 29, 2014
