L'ABBE HENRI PRESCOTT L'abbé Henri Prescott est décédé le 22 décembre 2014 à sa résidence de l'archevêché de Saint-Boniface à l'âge de 79 ans. Né le 13 septembre 1935 à Saint-Boniface, MB, l'abbé Prescott fut ordonné prêtre le 16 juin 1962 par S. E. Mgr Maurice Baudoux à Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. L'ont précédé dans la mort: son père Arcadius Prescott, sa mère Zéphirine Mousseau, ses frères et soeurs Evelyne, abbé Reginald, Alma, Ernest et Gilbert. L'abbé Henri laisse dans le deuil ses frères et soeurs: le père Roland, m. Afr., Rita (René Wilcott), soeur Irène, s.g.m., soeur Marguerite, s.g.m., Louis, Françoise, Lucie (feu Robert Allard), Hélène (Guy Mousseau), Georges (Jeannine Ruest) et Pauline, ainsi que des neveux et nièces. Après une scolarité à l'école Provencher, au collège secondaire de Saint-Boniface et une année au collège de Gravelbourg, en Saskatchewan, l'abbé Prescott fait des études de philosophie à Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Ensuite, il obtient un baccalauréat en théologie au grand séminaire de Saint-Boniface, une licence en théologie au grand séminaire de Montréal, un baccalauréat ès Arts, un certificat et un baccalauréat en Education du collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface, et un maîtrise ès lettres (littérature française) de l'université du Manitoba; enfin, il obtient un diplôme en hébreux à l'université de Jérusalem, en Israël; et un diplôme en allemand. Incardiné dans l'Archidiocèse de Saint-Boniface en 1959, il se joint à la compagnie des prêtres de Saint-Sulpice jusqu'en 1978 pour ensuite devenir prêtre diocésain. Sa vocation sacerdotale l'amène à exercer différents ministères: aumônier à l'hôpital général de Saint-Boniface (1970-1978), vicaire à la paroisse Holy Cross (1979-1981), curé à Richer et à Sainte-Geneviève (1981-1985), administrateur paroissial à Tolstoi et Vita (1985-2004), aumônier du centre St-Amant (1986-1987), aumônier du foyer Valade (1988-2005). Il prend ensuite sa retraite en octobre 2005 tout en demeurant disponible pour du ministère pastoral occasionnel. La messe des funérailles de l'abbé Henri, présidée par l'Archevêque de Saint-Boniface Mgr Albert LeGatt, aura lieu le samedi 3 janvier 2015 à 10 h à la cathédrale de Saint-Boniface, située au 180, avenue de la cathédrale, Saint-Boniface, Manitoba. L'inhumation suivra au cimetière de la cathédrale. Je vous aime, ô mon Dieu, et mon seul désir est de vous aimer jusqu'au dernier soupir de ma vie (Acte d'amour du saint curé d'Ars). FATHER HENRI PRESCOTT Father Henri Prescott passed away on December 22, 2014, at his residence at the Archbishop's house. He was 79 years old. Born in St. Boniface, on September 13, 1935, Father Prescott was ordained to the priesthood on June 16, 1962, by Most Reverend Maurice Baudoux in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. Father Henri was predeceased by: his father Arcadius Prescott, his mother Zephirine Mousseau, his brothers and sisters Evelyne, Father Reginald, Alma, Ernest and Gilbert. He leaves to mourn his departure his brothers and sisters: Father Roland, m. Afr., Rita (René Wilcott), Sister Irene, s.g.m., Sister Marguerite, s.g.m., Louis, Françoise, Lucie (late Robert Allard), Hélène (Guy Mousseau), Georges (Jeannine Ruest) and Pauline, as well as nephews and nieces. Following his education at Provencher School, St. Boniface Secondary College, and a year at the College in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, Father Prescott studied Philosophy in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He then obtained a Bachelor in Theology from the St. Boniface Major Seminary, a licence in Theology from the Major Seminary in Montreal, a Bachelor of Arts, a Certificate and a Bachelor in Education from the University of St. Boniface, and a Masters in Letters (French Literature) from the University of Manitoba; he then obtained a diploma in Hebrew from the University of Jerusalem, Israel; and a diploma in German Language. Incardinated into the St. Boniface Archdiocese in 1959, he joined the Company of the Priests of Saint Sulpice until 1978 when he became a diocesan priest. His priestly vocation brought him to different ministries: Chaplain at the St. Boniface General Hospital (1970-1978), vicar at Holy Cross Parish (1979-1981), Pastor at Richer and St. Genevieve (1981-1985), Parochial Administrator at Tolstoi and Vita (1985-2004), Chaplain at St. Amant Centre (1986-1987), and Chaplain at Foyer Valade (1988-2005). Then, in 2005, he retired from active ministry while being available for casual pastoral ministry. The Funeral Mass of Father Henri, presided by the Archbishop of St. Boniface Most Reverend Albert LeGatt, D.D., will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Boniface Cathedral, located at 180, avenue de la cathédrale, St. Boniface, Manitoba.
