Date of Passing: Dec 30, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET LILLIAN MCELMOYLE (nee MCILROY) Peacefully at the Maples Personal Care Home, Margaret McElmoyle passed away on December 30, 2014 at the age of 94 years. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1969, brother Donald, sisters Bernice and Patricia and grandson Sean McElmoyle. Left to cherish her memory are her loving son David (Polly) of Edmonton, and daughter Laurie (Allan) Mann of Winnipeg. Margaret is survived by brothers; Gordon of Vancouver and Jim (Jan) McIlroy of Winnipeg along with many nieces and nephews. The sparkle in her eye came from her five grandchildren and their families: Heather (Ollie) Christensen (Erik, Soren, Lanaya, Raina), Sean (2013), Sheila McElmoyle (David, Jackson), Kathy Brochu (Morgan, Alexis), Mike (Rob) Mann and James Mann. Margaret will also be missed by her lifelong friend Sigrid Woltzen of St. Louis, MO. Following the passing of her husband, Margaret entered the real estate profession and enjoyed a lengthy career that established many friendships. She cherished her involvement in the WSO, RWB, I.O.D.E. and her long standing commitment with St. Andrews and Westminster United Churches. Margaret's mother Magny Einarson was born in Hecla Island, MB just days after arriving from Iceland, and Margaret spoke proudly of her Icelandic heritage. She was a voracious reader of all things Icelandic and became familiar with the culture and customs of her heritage. It is here now we transitioned to the Amma stage. Once the grandchildren and great-grandchildren began arriving, there was not a more magical word uttered in the McElmoyle, Mann, Christensen, Brochu homes than "Amma." Our Amma was our matriarch, our inspiration, and our counsel for all things wise. Amma was our biggest supporter and strongest defender. Our lives were enriched by her countless blessings of good fortune and congratulations every time she heard of someone's accomplishment. Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and birthdays were always a special occasion, and even though she pretended not to like the fuss, we could see the smile and the sparkle that these were her fondest times. Until it became necessary for her to leave, Amma was fiercely independent in her own home. The family sincerely thanks her home care nurses and health care aides over the years who allowed our Amma to remain in her home. In keeping with Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place and when the Spring arrives and the flowers are blooming and the grass is green, the family will hold a private family service that will reunite Margaret with her Harold. Our Amma will always be with us, with pictures and spoken words. "J.T.A.T." The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J.COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

These past years, I've heard fond stories of Margaret's devotion to her family, and have admired her warmth, compassion and keen sense of humor when speaking with her. The kindness and love shown to her brother Jim are exemplary of the kind of person she was. I will miss her! My deepest condolences on the loss of an extraordinary lady. - Posted by: Wendy Preteau () on: Dec 31, 2014
