Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Stoney & Rosemary were our neighbours when I was a teenager on Ash St. I babysat the 3 kids, ate Rosemary's delicious shortbread (make her recipe every Christmas these days!) & enjoyed Stoney's laugh & teasing. Fond memories of this wonderful family. My condolences. - Posted by: Barbara Masterman (old neighbour in Winnipeg) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • Thanks Stone for all the wonderful associations both business and personal in Winnipeg and Oshawa. Your spiritual leadership at our Winnipeg Prayer Meetings provided a source of great strength and comfort over the years. It was an honor to meet all of your family at the service in Cobourg. Bon Voyage My Friend. Ken Baldock - Posted by: Ken Baldock (friend and business associate ) on: Jan 11, 2015

  • I'm sorry to read this news of 'Mr' Avery's passing ['Mr' to me as a young teenager]. Mr. Avery taught our confirmation classes at St. Andrews United Church, River Heights, Winnipeg. I remember thinking he was so 'cool' and always treated us kids with such respect and humour. My other recollection is my memory of thinking that "maybe just maybe I would decide to finish those church lessons because Mr. Avery made it such a great evening for us all." Thinking of the family at this time. - Posted by: Wendy [nee McAllister] Harris (Friend of Ben and Mary [Junior and High School] - River Heights) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • The story was that you had to be over six foot tall and wear a fedora to work in Sales for GM. Stone sure filled the doorway. He drove a 1962 Chevy 11 SS for me(my first car) as his company car. Always a friendly "Hello". You'll always be remembered. - Posted by: Bill Tataryn (fellow GM employee) on: Jan 04, 2015

  • My father, Don Best, worked for the KVP Company in Espanola. "Stoney's" father , Ben, was his boss. It was always big news in our family when Stoney came to visit his parents. He was big and handsome and he did indeed have a wonderful, sonorous voice. I remember my sister Maureen as being totally smitten by him. I last saw him at his mother Mary's funeral at the Espanola United Church. The encounter was, as all encounters were with him, a warm one. Condolences to Stoney's family from Don Best (age 98) and all his family, Suzanne, Maureen, Peter, Roz and Mary Lee. - Posted by: Peter Best (Espanola, Ontario) on: Jan 04, 2015

  • R.I.P. Dear Friend; I still check the back lane in the summer to see if you are coming for a sip - just to avoid 'the Rosemary Job Jar' - Posted by: Henriette and Bill Pollon (Neighbour in Winnipeg) on: Jan 03, 2015

  • There is one thing sure if Stone was in the building you would know it. He had a voice as big as thunder and personality to match that voice. He was a very dynamic man and it was my pleasure to know him for many years. Rest easy my friend. John Sellen - Posted by: John Sellen (friend) on: Jan 03, 2015

  • Stone was one of the Gentlemen at GM. Always polite and gracious, even to the point of accepting a tailor-made suit that was true red in the wrong colour(Kelly Green!). Also, his rendition of Al Jolson songs were the hit of the "Prayer Meetings" truly a class guy. - Posted by: Richard Graboski (Work at GM in Winnipeg with Stone) on: Jan 03, 2015
