Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR MILTON DOUCETTE Arthur died on December 27, 2014 at the age of 93, at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Winnipeg, MB. Dad was born on March 22, 1921 in Kippens, NL to Marcella and Laura (nee Gaudet) Doucette. Dad lived his first years in Newfoundland. His family moved to St. John, NB in 1928. His father died there in 1932, and his older brother Wilfrid (Bill), then 17, became Dad's mentor. Dad's mother remarried in 1934 to Henry Seraphin Leblanc, Jr. and they lived in Belleville, NS. Dad is mourned by his children, Lynne (Alan) Wingate, Ray Doucette, Lucille Doucette (Everett Fee), and Denise Doucette; his grandchildren, Gregory (Lisa) and great-grandson Jayden, David (Kayla), Nolan Popow and Tibor Popow, Dana Wingate and Kyle Wingate and their families, and all his Van Humbeck in-laws who were like brothers and sisters to him, Lucille (late Ray) Van Humbeck (Rufus Honish), Adrienne and Marty Weiten, Gilbert and Anne Van Humbeck, Ed and Terry Van Humbeck, Sue (late Frank) Van Humbeck and Isabel Van Humbeck and their families. In the east his nieces, Marlene West, Carlene Thompson, and Darlene Perry and their families also mourn. Family members who died before Dad were his wife, Elaine, his brothers Ernie at age five in 1928, and Bill in 1988, his in-laws Sally and Pat Daggitt, Aime and Doreen Van Humbeck, Ray Van Humbeck, and Frank Van Humbeck and their families. Dad enlisted in the army in 1941, served in the artillery, and gained the rank of Lieutenant. He instructed at Field, Terrace, and Chilliwack, BC and Petawawa, ON. After the war Dad worked in sales, starting in New Brunswick and later in Toronto and Manitoba where he met our mother Elaine. They were married August 13, 1949 and lived their lives together in Dauphin, Yorkton and Winnipeg. Dad enjoyed bowling, x-country skiing, and most passionately golf. A member of Rossmere Golf and Country Club for over 50 years, he did well in many tournaments around the province as well at his own club. In 1970 he kissed his six-iron after his tee shot flew 168 yards into the cup on the third hole. Dad also loved to sing and dance, and read poetry and novels. Dad lived a long and happy life with Mom. They were married over 63 years and after the busy times of raising four children while both worked, they enjoyed many years of healthy retirement during which they wintered in California, and travelled the world extensively. Dad's ashes will rest with our mother's at Glen Eden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Siloam Mission, Red Cross, or March of Dimes. Remember him by getting together on the links, hitting some balls and telling a few Newfie jokes.

Sincere condolences to Art's family. Having gone to school with Art's daughter Lucille, I remember Art joking with us and teasing us at birthday parties and gatherings at the Doucette home. It was great to reconnect with Art, Lucille, and the rest of the family when my Mother and Art lived across the hall from each other at Devonshire House. Art's love for his wife Elaine and for his children and their families was very evident in the conversations we shared together, and those conversations brought back many happy memories of life in East Kildonan when we all were younger. Art will be missed! - Posted by: Adele Rohulych and family (friend) on: Jan 05, 2015

I golfed with Art and Al a few times, it was quite a lesson in golf playing with someone like Art... as well as the laughing and fun times while we played... I am sorry for your loss but I am blessed to have known him and will smile and say a hello to him on my next golf game in hopes he will send a little divine guidance to my errant t-shots. I only met my uncle when I was an adult having missed my childhood years with him. After he and Dad reconnected it was as though they had never missed a day apart and Dad spoke often of his little brother. Looking at the photo of Uncle Art it is as looking at Dad they so resemble one another. I only wish that Dad had more years to enjoy their relationship but unfortunately that was not to be. I am thinking of those left behind to mourn the passing of their father and friend with compassion as one who has been there before them. Love and prayers go out to all of them. - Posted by: Carlene Thompson (Neice) on: Jan 03, 2015
