YVETTE MCHUGH (née MONDOR) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Yvette McHugh (née Mondor) on Monday, December 29, 2014, at the age of 87. In April 2014, Yvette was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, James McHugh. She was also predeceased by her parents, Cyprien and Marie, brothers: Ralph, and Rene, and sister, Florence and half-brothers and sisters: Noel, Albert, Yvonne, Aurore and Leona. Yvette is survived by her daughters: Renee Duddridge (Allan), Jamie McHugh-Lachiver (Michel), and Patrice McHugh (Merv Enes) and her grandchildren: Natalie Duddridge, Blaise Lachiver, and Kyle, Kent and Kurtis Magnusson, and her siblings: Maurice Mondor (Laura), Sally Gauvreau, and Doris Normandeau, and many nephews and nieces. Yvette lived most of her life in Winnipeg, where she spent many years working at the Winnipeg Free Press. Upon retirement, Yvette and Jim moved to Saskatoon, Sidney, BC and later Calgary. Yvette and Jim were Snowbirds, enjoying winters on Anna Maria Island, Florida. Yvette loved to paint and crochet and was able to spend her free time on her lovely paintings and crochet projects. A big thank you to the many caregivers at the Veterans' Care West Colonel Belcher, Calgary. A memorial service for Yvette will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to my cousins, Renee, Jamie, and Patrice (and the grandkids). Your mom was so much fun and way ahead of her time. Her paintings and crochet work were beautiful. I have very fond memories of her. I hope you tuck away all the wonderful memories you have of her in your heart. Whenever you need to smile, just take one of them out. Like playing "Twister" in the kitchen. It is so sad to have lost both your parents in such a short time period. But, I know they are in a better place without pain or suffering and looking out for you. A big hug to each of you. Love, Brian Goodman - Posted by: Brian Goodman (Nephew) on: Jan 06, 2015

  • So sorry for your loss, McHugh family. I worked many years with Yvette at the Press, and she was well loved. We missed her when she left us but her memory lives on! - Posted by: Linda Ericsson (co-worker at the Winnipeg Free Press) on: Jan 06, 2015

  • May thoughts of sympathy bring you comfort... thinking of you all during these difficult times. We have fond memories of Yvette during our family gatherings. She was always full of fun and life. It must be difficult for all of you to have lost both parents and grandparents in such a short time but they are again together. May faith lighten your sorrow. - Posted by: Suzanne & Patrick LeMadec (Family ) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • My deepest sympathy to Renee, Jamie, Patrice and their families on the loss of your Mother and grandmother. It was an honour to have known Mrs. McHugh, as I always called her, and may she rest in peace and be reunited with her husband now. I would like to share this quote to her remaining family. "She has not died, but merely gone away, to a better place, free of pain and suffering. We will all see her again some day." My thoughts and prayers are with her family. - Posted by: Patricia Homenick (Former neighbour from St. Boniface) on: Jan 04, 2015

  • My sincerest sympathy to Auntie's 3 beautiful daughter's and grandchildren for their loss. I can still hear her cheery voice. Aunty was kind-hearted and loved to have fun, laugh and make others laugh too...She loved to crochet little gifts for others and was very creative in doing so ;);) Aunty also loved to speak French whenever she had the chance and would ask to speak to my husband Denis to practice when we would call on her birthday. Aunty, the special memories of you will live in our heart forever and we will smile each time we think of you. With love Dianne & Denis xoxo - Posted by: Dianne Normandeau (Niece) on: Jan 04, 2015
