Happy 69th hon. Miss you so much!! I lost a piece of me when you died. I think of you every day. As we discussed, I spread some of your ashes in the DR, in front of our place in the ocean, some at Grande Pointe and some over your mom and dad. I will also put some at Rivers. Just trying to do all we had discussed so frivolously before you got sick. I will always love you and you will always have my heart. Love you forever and always and I know that you are with me always. We were the real deal as a team. Love you!!! - Posted by: Jo (Wife) on: Sep 14, 2021

To Brian, The best stepdad a girl could ask for... Today you would have been 67! I’m wishing you a very happy birthday! I miss you every single day and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about you. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 5 years since you’ve been gone. I wish everyday that you could be here to witness some incredible moments in my life (Graduating with my Business Degree, Getting an incredible job in HR with an amazing company, getting married...) I know you have been watching down on me and will continue to do so in the days to come. To date I’ve raised over 10K for CancerCare MB and will continue to walk the 20k Challenge for Life Walk for you and everyone who is or has battled cancer! I promise to continue to make you proud and put a smile on your face! As tradition goes, I’ll be sure to have a rum & coke for you today! Cheers Bri! Love you forever and always. ♥️ - Posted by: Jessie Hyra (Step Daughter ) on: Sep 14, 2019

Love and miss you always Bri. I will always cherish the memories I have had with you. It's hard to believe that it's already been just over a year and a half since you've gone to heaven. This year has been pretty great and I just wish that you were here to share the memories. Business Degree Graduation, Amsterdam with Bryn and so much more to come in the upcoming months. I know you've been watching down on me though. I love you. xoxo. Jessie - Posted by: Jessie Graham (Daughter ) on: Aug 31, 2016

I remember seeing Brian's curling team photo on the wall in the halls of Vincent Massey. I was proud of their accomplishments. It made me sad to think that he will not be able to enjoy the later years where you get to reflect on your life and enjoy the days when work doesn't have to play such a significant role in your day. I offer my sincere condolences to all those who cared about Brian and will now have to continue without him. - Posted by: Ianthe Warner (attended Vincent Massey) on: Jan 16, 2015

My condolences to Brian's family. Although I have never curled with or against Brian, we had discussions of the sport at certain Advocis meetings when we met. A real reserved and gentleman with passion for his sport, business clients and from what we can see in this obit, a true love for his family. I had seen Brian at Cancer Care Mb upon a visit with my dad only to discuss that this was not an Advocis meeting place of which he announced his treatment follow-ups. His humour and chuckle will be remembered always! RIP my friend and may you start your own curling team. - Posted by: Norbert Collette (associate) on: Jan 12, 2015

My sincere condolences to Jo-Anne and family on the passing of Brian who truly was one of a kind. I will forever be grateful to Brian for taking a chance on me, this new guy from Alberta via Waterloo in the fall of 1984. As a teammate and roommate for three amazing curling seasons, Brian taught me much in curling and life. We had a lot of success and more laughs (some silent!) over the years. You have left your mark in many lives on and off the ice and for that you will be remembered forever. - Posted by: Scott Mundle (Friend and teammate (84-87)) on: Jan 12, 2015

We are so sorry to hear of Brian's passing. We have known Brian for 40 years through the Fort Rouge C.C. He was always a gentleman and one of the nicest guys to have known. Such a nice family, his Mom & Dad and brother Bob, always pleasant. We'll miss running into him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Joanne & family! We played Brian in the Manitoba curling final in 1986.Ice conditions were terrible so luck was a large factor. We lucked out with a four in the first end. Brian's comment after the game was "we should have shown up late, then we would have only been one down!" Goodbye old friend. - Posted by: Mike Riley (friend and former curling foe) on: Jan 11, 2015

May Brian rest in peace. - Posted by: Gord & Addie Sumka (Friends) on: Jan 11, 2015

I was saddened to read about the passing of Brian. It has been years since I saw him last. I had the privilege to curl mixed provincials with Brian when it was held at the Rouge. My heart goes out to Jo, Jessie and Daniel. Time with brian both on and off the ice will always hold a special place in my heart. He was definately a people person. The bonspiels, the double dark and dirty (Rum and Coke), and his infectious laughter. You will be missed my friend. - Posted by: Dave Shortill (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2015

I was so sorry to learn of Brian's passing. I have known the Penston family for over 40 years and I had the good fortune to curl with Brian and his brother Bob in the early 70s. Aside from being an excellent curler - always calm and seemingly unflappable - he had that wonderful sense of humour and quick smile that drew people to him. He was very popular among the curling community and beyond. He will be missed by so many. I would like to extend my condolences to his wife Jo-Anne and his family. - Posted by: Doug Finkbeiner (friend and fellow curler) on: Jan 11, 2015

Much sympathy to Jo-Anne over the passing of your beloved Brian, and sympathy to all your grieving family, in particular, Jesse, who was devoted to her dear step-dad. Having known you, Jo-Anne, since kindergarten, I am so saddened that you have lost your soul mate and great friend. You two were such bright lights in each other's lives and the obituary photo reveals that real love you shared. Jo-Anne, we remember your lovely wedding and how you asked Brian (MacKinnon) to take your wedding photos in the conservatory setting and how happy the two of you were on that beautiful day. In the years that transpired, your love just continued to grow in your happy home, with the visiting wildlife and the magical coy in the pond. You are so fortunate to have had each other on this journey through the world, and we know you will miss your wonderful companion, Brian, so very much. - Posted by: Margaret Shaw-MacKinnon (Friend) on: Jan 10, 2015

Saddened to hear of Brian's passing, and my condolences to the family on your loss. I grew up in Fort Garry, playing little league baseball against Brian, and watching him and brother Bob play for the Fort Garry Lions. I curled my first ever game at the Pembina juniors in 1970, the year Brian, Gary, Allan and Ray went on to win the schoolboys. Our parents also knew each other through curling, and of course my dad bought a Buick from Brian's dad Jim. Brian was a first class gentleman on and off the ice. He was a credit to his family, his profession, and the curling community. - Posted by: Gord Mooney (Ft Garry memories) on: Jan 10, 2015

Shirley and I were very saddened to hear of his passing and for your loss Jo Ann. I will certainly will miss my time together with Brian as we had many great discussions on a variety of topics. Brian, like his father Jim, was a character to say the least. Blessed with the ability to curl with the best, Brian always had a smile on his face and a story to share. I had the good fortune to curl with Brian in several bonspiels and our team always had as much fun off the ice as we did on. Your demeanour and wit will be missed, but you can now join "our" dad Jim at the great curling club above. Thanks for all the laughs Brian, you left us too soon.... - Posted by: Sean McCreary (Friend) on: Jan 07, 2015

I was so saddened to receive the news about the passing of Brian. I have had the good fortune of knowing Brian since he was a babe in the arms of Jim and Leone and Bob's little brother. I curled with Brian for a year but knew him for many more. No matter how well he performed on the ice he always excelled upstairs afterwards with his jokes and story telling. He always made me laugh and I feel honored to have known him. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Randy Chervinski (Friend) on: Jan 05, 2015
