Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN MARNIE RITSCHER April 7, 1916 - December 30, 2014 Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Peacefully, with her family at her bedside, Helen passed away at the age of 98. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Margaret and Irene, son-in-law Bernie, her two precious grandchildren, Jennifer and Steven (Joanna), sisters Janet and Mary, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Jean (2010), her husband Rudolf (1992) and her parents, Janet and William Marnie. Mom was born in the Ewart District of Manitoba on April 7, 1916. After finishing high school, she worked on local farms and when the Second World War broke out she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. She was stationed at St. Thomas, Ontario and then was shipped overseas to York, England where she worked as a cook in the Bomber Command. She met and married Ruldolf Ritscher during the flood of 1950 and they settled first in Charleswood and then in Anola, Manitoba. Mom loved to sew, garden, and travel, and was renowned for her beautiful quilts. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was always eager for an outing. A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Tuesday, January 6 at 2:00 p.m., Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. The family would like to thank the staff of the Victoria and Concordia Hospitals, Poseidon Care Centre and Vista Park Lodge for their care of and kindness to Mom over this last year. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Our sincere condolences to the Hnatishin family as well as to Margaret for your loss of a loving mother, grandmother. We will cherish the memories of the times we spent with her at the lake. I enjoyed our chitchats and will never forget her precious little smile as I spoke with her.
