DEBORAH ANNE BROOKS (nee WATSON) It is with profound sadness that the family of Deborah Brooks announce her passing in Victoria, BC, on December 21, 2014, after a short but courageous battle with a brain tumour. She was surrounded in love by her husband, Bob, brothers Bill and Sandy, sister-in-law Deborah and cousins from Toronto. Predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Anna, she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbours, and walkers on the local Cedar Hill chip trail. Deb was born in Winnipeg July 2, 1954, attended Laura Secord School and Gordon Bell High School and then worked for many years at the Manitoba Provincial Legislature in Winnipeg, then for the BC government in Victoria. She loved life, family, friends, dogs and travelling. Her passion for nature, particularly birds, stimulated all who knew her, and her warm laugh was infectious. A celebration of Deb will be held in the spring in Victoria on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to the BC Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (WildARC) would be appreciated. http://www.spca.bc.ca/branches/wild-arc/

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Sorry to hear my friend and school mate has passed away. We lost touch with each other when she moved away. We went through school together and were cheerleaders at Gordon Bell High School. We both worked together at the Manitoba Government. I'll have lots of good memories of Debbie. I will miss her. My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Olivia (Mandl) Doyle (friend and school mate) on: Apr 22, 2015

  • So sorry to hear of Debbie's passing. I remember meeting Deb her first day on the job at the MB Legislative Bldg when she came to the office I worked in to use the Xerox machine. She was only 17 or 18 years old at the time. We became friends and went for drinks after work on many occasions. Always smiling with a sardonic sense of humour. - Posted by: Terri Krasnowski (Coworker) on: Jan 04, 2015

  • Very sad to hear of the death of Debbie. I have fond memories of our time at Gordon Bell. I must say, that the picture of her is the same as I remember. Blessings to the family. - Posted by: Marguerite Bell Toogood (Friend from Gordon Bell High School) on: Jan 03, 2015

  • I am deeply saddened to read about Debbie's passing. She and I worked together many years ago with the Province of Manitoba. We had so many good times and great laughs. Debbie had a great sense of humour and will be missed terribly. My condolences. GTLOBD - Posted by: Jenny Morris (coworker) on: Jan 03, 2015
