LORNA GLORIA ALLSOPP (nee HALSTEAD) Lorna Gloria Allsopp (nee Halstead) On January 1, 2015, aged 90, with heavy hearts we said goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom is survived by her children Greg, Lorelei, Kerry. grandchildren Karyn, Chris, Ron, Kristi, Christine, Chelsea, Bryce and Chantal and three great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Walter and daughter Susan. Mom passed away with grace and dignity after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Despite her illness Mom greeted all people with smiles and laughter. Mom was proud of her Scandinavian roots: her mother Swedish and father Norwegian. Her parents immigrated to Canada and raised nine children in Winnipeg, MB. Mom often spoke of the love that surrounded her big happy family. She was predeceased by all of her siblings with the exception of one sister, Harriett VanAlstyne of British Columbia. Mom also had a fondness towards all her nieces and nephews. After the Second World War, Mom met and fell in love with her beloved Wally. They married June 29, 1946 and raised their family of four in Winnipeg MB. As a stay at home mother she worked tirelessly to provide a loving home for her family. Mom was the backbone of our family that cared, nourished, and guided us through our lives. Wally passed away in April 1988, and a piece of her heart and soul went with him. A day did not go by that she did not mention Dad's name. Mom had many close friends whom she cherished during her life time. Many of these friends she befriended as a young child. A rarity in todays world. Unfortunately, most of her friends predeceased her. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A family interment will follow in the warmth of the summer where she will be reunited the love of her life, Wally. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Thanks to the staff of River Park Lions Manor (five years) and River Park Gardens (six months) for the loving care provided over the years to our mother. We will miss the warmth of our Mom's smile, and her kind and loving nature will be embraced in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace Mom. We Love you.

  • So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Sure remember all the parties when the Allsopps, MacIntoshes and Terins would get together. Since the 3 girls (Dot, Dorothy, and Lorna) grew up together they sure had a lot of stories to share! One of the main topics was how smooth your mom's facial skin was and how she had no wrinkles --- what was her secret?? Now that all 6 are up there together, I am sure the partying will go on! - Posted by: Donna Aikman (Nee: Terin). Daughter of Dorothy and Les (Friend) on: Jan 05, 2015
