Merle was born April 7, 1920 to William and Elsie Pringle. After attending school in Manitoba she trained at the Winnipeg General Hospital from where she graduated with her R.N. in 1944. Upon graduation, Merle joined the Victorian Order of Nurses, taking a year off to attend the University of Manitoba where she took a public health course. She later taught public health nursing to students of McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Following this, Merle went to Indonesia with the World Health Organization to set up a school of nursing for practical nurses. In 1960 she moved to the U.S.A where she married Chris Enke who had taught for the Ford Foundation in Indonesia. Upon Chris' death in 1973, she continued with public health nursing in Oregon where they had been living. In 1976 she met and later married Harvey Boyd, and together they moved to Winnipeg in 1993. After Harvey's passing in 1999 Merle's health began to decline, and she became a patient in The Golden Link Lodge until her death. Merle was predeceased by her parents, and is survived by her brother Norris Pringle and his wife Violet, her brother Alistaire Pringle and his wife Beryl, her sister Mrs. Gwen Welsh, along with numerous nephews and nieces, and great-nephews and nieces. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Golden Links Lodge (presently situated at the River Ridge Care Centre) for their loving care to Merle. The family also wishes to thank St. Bartholomew Anglican Church for including Merle in their prayers. At Merle's request, cremation has taken place and a family service will occur at a later date. Rest in peace, dear sister. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Merle may be made to The Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6.

One of my favorite times when I was young, was my visit to Oregon spending time with you at your house at the beach collecting seashells and big glass orbs that had fallen loose from distant fishing vessels. You have a profound impact on all those that you met, Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Al Pringle Jnr (Nefew) on: Jan 07, 2015
