ROBERT PARKER THOMLINSON
Born: Mar 03, 1935
Date of Passing: Jan 06, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT PARKER THOMLINSON March 3, 1935 - January 6, 2015 Robert is now at rest after a lengthy battle with cancer. Left to mourn are Robert's wife Sharon, daughter Michelle (Mitchell), sons Robert (Kristi) and Jim (Paula), and grandsons Brendan and Parker. He was predeceased by his mother, father and brother Jim. Robert grew up in Dauphin, Manitoba. He attended the University of Manitoba and studied Civil Engineering. He worked for PFRA at South Saskatchewan Dam then moved to Russell, Manitoba, where he worked at the Shellmouth Dam. He was transferred to Winnipeg where he worked in the office until his retirement. His kids remember him as the dad who had a great way of leading by example. He showed us how to work hard, to pursue our dreams, which would be owning a snappy red sport car for dad, and putting family first as he always put his family. Robert spent nineteen winters in Mazatlan, Mexico, where he enjoyed the sunshine sitting on the deck reading book after book. He loved to read. He belonged to the Barbershop Harmony Group, The Golden Chordsmen, for about thirty five years. If he didn't have a song book in his hand he had a novel. A Celebration of Robert's life will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Bob was always known to me as Robbie in the early years in Dauphin. He was the same age as me and I first knew him around Grade 6 when we had paper routes delivering the morning paper in Dauphin. We both played minor baseball and hockey through Grades 6 to 10. Rob was a good back catcher and we played together on a winning hockey team around ages 13 to 14. Around this time Rob got a job collecting tickets in the Gay Theatre in Dauphin and also got me a job there as an usher. Rob got his driver's license when he was 16 and we went fishing a few times near the mouths of the Vermillion and Wilson Rivers at Dauphin Lake carrying the boat on top of his Dad's '46(?) Chevy car. U of M 1st year Engineering, our drafting desks were back to back, whistling as we worked and criticizing other whistlers. Stayed in Men's Residence and we did a fair amount of bar hopping in Winnipeg. Our paths crossed again in Regina when Rob was with PFRA and I was with Federal Highways. My wife and I gave Rob a ride from Regina to Dauphin at Christmas around 1959. Last saw him in Russell around 1973 when he was working on the Shellmouth Dam. He was a good friend. - Posted by: Bruce Balchen () on: Jan 13, 2015

I sang with Rob in the bass section of the Golden Chordsmen for twenty-nine years. I used to marvel how Rob would return from Mexico after a few months away from the chorus and still know the music better than those of us who had practiced weekly all winter! My condolences to Sharon and the family. - Posted by: Martin Gurvey (friend) on: Jan 13, 2015

Bob was the director of the PFRA Manitoba Region at the time that I started working there. Well at least I think so. I do remember him as great leader even though I did not report directly to him. It can be said that when in the field and away from the office duties Bob was very friendly. Bob was a terrific PFRA representative. I have a number of very good memories of him and send my deepest regrets to his family. - Posted by: Conrad J Wyrzykowski (Employee) on: Jan 12, 2015

He was a long time neighbour whose daughter and my daughter are still best friends. He was helpful when needed and always had a good word for everyone. He is now cancer free and looking after his family from above. Best wishes to Sharon and children. - Posted by: Charles Hamelynck (longtime neighbour) on: Jan 10, 2015
