FLORENCE GLADYS (GLADYS) KERR (nee WEALE) After a stroke, Gladys passed away peacefully at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on January 4, 2015. Predeceased by her husband Cecil in 2004, she is loved and remembered by her son Michael Kerr, daughter Susan (Bill) Meagher, grandchildren James (Lindsay), Michael and Daniel Meagher, Mikayla and Evan Kerr. She is also missed by her precious cat "Maui." Mom was born in Winnipeg June 27, 1918 and grew up in Fort Garry. She was a member of the Fort Garry Historical Association. Mom loved life. In the 1930's and 40's she enjoyed skiing at Sunshine Lodge in B.C., paddling with the Winnipeg Canoe Club, was one of the first TCA (Air Canada) employees and travelled to places like the Bahamas. She married Cec in 1952. In the 1950's Mom and Dad owned and operated Kerr's Snack Bar on South Osborne. After children (Michael and Susan) arrived, Mom stayed at home and instilled in us her love of nature and gardening having us all involved with the Fort Garry Horticultural Society for a time. In 1970, our family was transferred to Montreal with Air Canada and Mom loved her years in Quebec, visiting museums and art galleries and trips to Vermont to see the fall colours. To fulfill her creative drive, she took art classes wherever she went and for many years at the Fort Garry Palette Club. Mom traveled extensively and after 1977, it was annual snowbird trips to Florida with Dad. Mom loved summers at Victoria Beach, having gone since childhood it was always her favourite place. She had many lifelong friends. She was still in contact with a group of friends who met during their first job as teenagers "The Woolworth Gals" although they all went on to other jobs and raising families, they were always together. A funeral service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice. Mom was a very special lady. She did all she could to make sure everyone was happy. Love you forever Mom. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
