NOREEN QUON CHIN (nee HONG) Peacefully on January 7, 2015 at the age of 86, Noreen Quon Chin (nee Hong) our beloved mother and grandmother passed away at Jocelyn House Hospice. Noreen was predeceased by her cherished husband John Ying, her parents, Phyllis and Quon Gock Hong, brother Frank and sister Alice. Left to cherish her memory are her children Larry (Lorenda), Marilyn, Jeff (Mae), Madeline (Gerry), Daryl (Sharon) and grandchildren, Ben (Greenie), Tiff, Tom (Kristelle), Matt, Steven, Brenton, Leanne, Erin (Svante) their children Ossian and Rio, and Abby (Clint). Noreen will also be fondly remembered by her eldest brother Phil (Joan), sisters Esther, Rose, Dorothy, Gladys (David), and Diana, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Noreen was born on February 29, 1928 in Victoria, BC. Noreen was the eldest daughter of nine children and lived a happy childhood in Victoria. After graduating from high school she met the love of her life, John. They married on October 5, 1950 and shortly thereafter moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family of five children. Noreen was a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. One of her greatest joys was being surrounded by her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her warmth and ability to make everybody feel welcomed. Her extraordinary cooking and baking were enjoyed by many. She was also a wonderful seamstress. She shared many of these talents with her family and friends. Noreen was very young at heart and willing to do anything with her children and grandchildren. Noreen was a devout Christian and was very active in the Chinese United Church. Her profound faith inspired her daily life and was a comfort to her during her illness. A celebration of Noreen's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Jocelyn House and Dr. Mark Kristjanson. Words cannot express our gratitude for the care and compassion given to our Mom and to her family. We would like to thank Reverend Paul Campbell and Sister Jo-Ann Duggan who both gave spiritual support throughout Mom's illness. Thank you to all the relatives, friends, and co-workers who also gave support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Noreen's memory may be made to Jocelyn House Hospice, 177 Egerton Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 2W7 or to the Chinese United Church, 281 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B OM7. • We are saddened by the loss of our sweet sister in Christ. Noreen's kindness and tireless smiles always made us feel welcomed and pleasant at the church. Whenever we saw her at the church, she always came to sit with us during the church lunch. Her strong faith in the Lord impressed me the most. At her age, she attended worship service faithfully every Sunday, even when the weather was not so good during the winter. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. - Posted by: Stanley and Carolyn Siu (Friends in Christ) on: Jan 11, 2015

  • Noreen was quick to make me feel welcome as a non-Chinese speaking visitor at her church, taking me under her wing and making sure that I had the english translation when I needed it, making sure I wasn't sitting alone, etc. She lived out the love of God in the way she cared for people. - Posted by: Viviane Frenzel (acquaintance) on: Jan 11, 2015
