Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) ROBERT ALLEN, CD January 6, 1919 - January 8, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather CSM John (Jack) Robert Allen, CD on January 8, 2015 at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 96. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce in 2013, and is survived by his three sons: James (Margaret), Ronald, and Lorne; by his grandchildren: Kimberley, Sean, Matthew, Christina (CJ Gauthier), and Danielle; and by his great granddaughter Luna Fey. John was born on January 6, 1919 in Montréal, Québec to parents John Francis Allen and Katherine Louisa Steel. He worked for Imperial Oil on ships on the Great Lakes only to enroll in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. He served his country with distinction as a member of the 8th Reconnaissance Regiment (14th Canadian Hussars) of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. Seeing action throughout his service, he was a decorated veteran. He married the love of his life in 1947 and raised a family. Working in numerous jobs in Montréal, he was later transferred to Winnipeg and went on to work for the City of Winnipeg until his retirement. He had a passion for dogs and was especially fond of Terriers. He loved his birds and was a keen horticulturalist that could often be found in the garden tending to his numerous plants. To relax, John loved nothing more than a good cup of tea and a game of crib. John had a passion for aiding fellow veterans and was a lifelong member of The Royal Canadian Legion Charleswood Branch #100. He was a member of Charleswood-Red River Masonic Lodge #184, and was a proud member of the Salvation Army. Always active and interested in his civic duties, he was a founding member of the Reform Party of Canada and kept abreast of current events. The family would like to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre who cared for John during his stay there and would like to thank Wheeler Funeral Home for taking care of Funeral arrangements. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 15 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba at 10:00 a.m. "First in, Last out" Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 204-224-1525

My favourite memories are of Uncle Jack on the old farm where we shared our summer holidays. He loved a good laugh, and I always loved hearing the stories he and my dad would tell us all. R.I.P....Uncle Jack..xo - Posted by: Dawn DuVall (neice) on: Jan 13, 2015
