Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE (JEAN) WATKINS (nee STEWART) Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Jean passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015, at the age of 87, with her family by her side. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Mel and four sons: Doug (Lise), Ken (Dianne), Rick (Joan), and Larry (Debby); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and her sister Hazel and her family in Victoria, BC. Jean was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Jessie Stewart and her two brothers Jack and Jim Stewart. Jean was born in Russell, Manitoba on September 26, 1927. She graduated from Carman Collegiate and taught school for one year before moving to Winnipeg to pursue her nursing training at the old Victoria Hospital on River Avenue. She worked briefly as a nurse before staying at home to raise her family. Jean was a member of the Fort Garry Legion and the Ladies' Auxiliary. She loved her crib and shuffleboard nights at the legion. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015, at noon at the Fort Garry Legion, 1125 Pembina Hwy. Reception to follow. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Tuxedo Villa for the great care and attention extended to Jean for the past 13 months.
