I had the pleasure of first knowing Al as a neighbour on Erie Bay. I and my son, Don, worked for Al at Sentinel Security. Together, Al and I were the "Masters of the Machines" at the Viscount Gort and McPhillips Street Station. Our sincere condolences to Al's Family. He will be missed. Sincerely, Al Wilner and Family - Posted by: Allan & Don Wilner and Family (Friends and former work colleagues) on: Jan 23, 2015

I first met Mr D about 9 years ago and was immediately amazed by him. Subsequently he became my mentor and I wouldn't be where I am today without him. I owe everything to Mr D and was greatly saddened by his passing. He will truly be missed. Thank you Mr D for all of your guidance, both business and personal. Without a doubt, a man who deserved respect. - Posted by: Don Beall (partner in business) on: Jan 21, 2015

My heart sank when I was told of Allan's passing. I had the pleasure over the years serving Allen and guests every Friday night at the Viscount. He was a generous man who whole heartedly encouraged people to join his group. He would do his introductions with great pride of who, how and when he had met his guests followed with a swift "Now what can we get you to drink!". He had an amazing wit and a laugh that more often than not was terribly contagious. I will always be honoured to call him a friend and he will be greatly missed. Cheers Allan, I hope they have a good stock of red wine, napkins and pens for you! - Posted by: Lorie K (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2015

Please accept my heartfelt condolences during the loss of a distinguished and gracious gentleman. I had the tremendous pleasure of working for Mr. Dryburgh back in the 1980’s and later we became friends and a person that I often sought advice and guidance in my business endeavors, I know he will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Dryburgh’s family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Bill Brown (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2015

It was a great honour to have known this distinguished gentleman. As a member of the MFOA, Al was President when I joined and his leadership skills at meetings and on the field were an inspiration to me to develop as an official. As years passed by, every time Al and I crossed paths he always provided encouragement to me to continue my officiating endeavors. Thanks Al, always remembered. - Posted by: Ron Hallock (friend) on: Jan 19, 2015

Dear Andrea, Dave and Dryburgh family, We were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing last week. My connection with Allan was, of course, through my special cousin, Arly. Then Allan became a special cousin too. I remember when Arly met Allan and thinking he better be "the one", and he was. They were a great match, respect and love showed. I remember fond visits with lots of laughs when I would come home to Winnipeg for a holiday. Allan was generous, charming and witty. Rest in peace, Allan. Condolences to all the family. I regret I will not be able to attend the service on Thursday. Cheri and Dave Helstrom Gray, Sask. . - Posted by: Cheri and Dave Helstrom (Cousin of wife Arlenel) on: Jan 18, 2015

Mr. D came into my life a short time ago when he moved into the Ports. It was an extreme pleasure to have served him everyday. I looked forward to seeing him in a daily basis. Mr. D's friendshio was so warm and caring. I recently lost my father and my father was the only one who called me sweetheart besides Mr. D. His last words to me the other day was ' I will wait for you'. It breaks my heart to know the loss of the great soul. But in my eyes the heavens has gained another angel. My heart goes out to Mr.D's family and friends. RIP dear friend. - Posted by: Maureen Smith (Friend) on: Jan 18, 2015

Allan's leadership and dedication towards the development of football officials was outstanding. He was the cornerstone of the Manitoba Football Officials Association. For those of us who were fortunate enough to be part of Al's era, have become better officials as well as having an opportunity to sustain a vibrant and highly successful Football Officials Association. - Posted by: Bud Ulrich (Friend and Colleague) on: Jan 17, 2015

I am Arly's cousin, and I have so many wonderful memories of spending time with Allan & Arly. I was very young when they got married and always went out of their way to spend time with me. As life went on and I had my children we always felt a special bond. Allan would stop at our Bakery in Gladstone on his way to Rapid City and we looked forward to those visits. Allan had a terrific mind for business and he sure helped my husband and I with his advice. Our condolences to his family, he will truly be missed. - Posted by: Dawn & Perry Coubrough (cousins through his marriage to Arlene) on: Jan 17, 2015

My condolences and sympathy to the Dryburgh family on the passing of Al. I knew Al through his various businesses a number of years ago. A fine and good-natured gentleman. After one or two discussions we decided we were not related, although parts of my family spelled their name the same as Al's. It didn't matter any way (Al told me he was adopted) dut we referred ourselves as cousins. My kindness regards Dave Drybrough - Posted by: David Drybrough () on: Jan 17, 2015

Only a few times in your life do you run into an individual with such an open heart, quick wit and no BS attitude - Mr. D had all three. He has left a complex legacy which includes many entrepreneurs he has coached and assisted in achieving success. He will be missed. - Posted by: Dan Belhassen (Associate) on: Jan 17, 2015

Allan, it's over 50 years ago when you entered the lives of a group of starry eyed young eager officials. You inspired, taught and pointed us in the right direction. Today we remain friends, still drawing on the values and the love of the game which you inspired. - Posted by: Neil Payne (Friend) on: Jan 17, 2015

I was married to Jean Harvey whose mother was a Scott family member hence the family relationship to Arlie and Allan. We used to live in Winnipeg and our daughters are the same age. It was through Arlie and Allen that we all became good friends. Even do we moved back to Whitehorse Allan and I kept up our contacts, we had a mutual respect for one another and enjouyed our visits tremendously. Allan at one time ran a security firm in the Territory so we would see lots of him when he came-up to inspect or bid on contracts. Further he and Arlie, Jean and I loved to watch the Rose Bowl parade together while Andrea and my doughter Patch played. In the last couple of years Allan and i connected more by letter and phone calls and jocked about how "young" we actually are he always lost as he was some 14 years older. Allan was generous with his family and always had the best in mind. So did I in my own strange way as I couched him in helping me fly a kite. We ran like fools flying a kite above Assinibome Park all out of breath, huffing and puffing and he told me that was one of the best things he had done in a long time. I will miss Allan as I come though Winnipeg, we would catch-up and that personal contact is now gone forever. Let me end with the hope that I can reconect with daughter Andrea and her husband David so we can have another laugh and cry if so required about the good old times we spend together as a family. Cheers to a good man, farwell Allan may you rest peaceful wherever that might be. Allan and Arlene were long time friends, and we enjoyed all our visits in Winnipeg and Clear lake, as well as their visits to Edmonton. We shared many laughs, and we have good memories of our fun card games, dining out, and shopping with Arlie, at Polo Park. - Posted by: walter & shirley mitchell (long time friends) on: Jan 16, 2015
