Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE FRANCIS TOWNSEND It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of George Francis Townsend on January 16, 2015 at the Riverview Health Centre, where he had resided since February 2014. George was born July 30, 1923 in Winnipeg as the youngest child of Bertie and Amy Townsend. He was predeceased by his beautiful and loving wife Irene (Renie) (nee Cameron) in 1992 after 46 years of marriage; his parents; six brothers, Albert, Stanley, Leonard, Herbert, Harold, Earl; and two sisters, Grace and Inez. Left to cherish George's memory are his sons, Philip (Janet Weiss-Townsend), John and Mark Ahrens-Townsend (Judy Ahrens-Townsend); his grandchildren, David, Kevin, Nicholas, Nathan, Luke, Cameron, Jay, Tamara, Sherilyn, Elise, and Jamie; his great-grandchildren, Madden, Ella, Jace, Nash, and Luka; his brother-in-law Jack Cameron and sister-in-law Arlene Cameron; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. George served in the RCAF during the Second World War and was a Mechanical Supervisor with Canadian Pacific Railway before his retirement in 1984. Dad was a real gentleman, had boundless energy and was gracious, gentle, caring, generous, unselfish and faithful to everyone, especially his family and friends, but also with strangers alike who quickly became friends. He was a dapper dresser taking pride in his appearance which accompanied the eternal smile on his face. Dad was a builder and loved projects. He was resourceful, hard working and always took a very positive approach to life and its challenges. He loved to travel and help wherever he could. Dad's faith in our Lord was important and sustained him. George was a long time member of the Anglican and United churches and various choirs including The Winnipeg Male Chorus from which he took great pleasure. Dad loved his sons unconditionally and they consider themselves blessed to have had him as their father. His daughters-in-law were very special to Dad and they enjoyed a very close relationship with him which has evolved and endured. Dad passed peacefully from this earthly abode to his heavenly Father to be reunited with mom and all those that he loved and that have gone before. Dad will be missed greatly by all those who loved and knew him. His gift to all of his family is that he created a treasure chest of good memories to help sustain them in the years to come. The family wants to sincerely thank all the staff of 4D at Riverview Health Centre, Grace General Hospital, Home Care and The Wellington, for all the support, care and love that they showed to Dad as well as his family over the years. You are all amazing. A service to celebrate Dad's life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. It is with sincere sadness that we learn of the passing of your Dad. We were fortunate to have been his neighbour for all these years, and our privilege to have known such a fine gentleman. And yes he was a dapper dresser, even to cut his front lawn with polished shoes and perfectly pressed pants. He was a great addition to our neighbourhood. Rest in Peace George. - Posted by: George & iris Wood (Long time neighbours) on: Jan 19, 2015

George and Irene (Renie) were dear friends of my parents George & Doreen Lowry. My mother went to school with both George and Irene and remained close friends ever since. I remember how my mother used to talk about how much George loved Irene and how much they both loved their boys. They were both wonderful people and are together again. My thoughts are with all of the Townsend family. - Posted by: Janice Smith (nee Lowry) (Friend of family) on: Jan 19, 2015
