Date of Passing: Jan 11, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPURVIS ELLERY SUNLEY Purvis Purve' Ellery Sunley, 85, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully, with family members with him, on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Middlechurch Personal Care Home. A celebration of life service will be held in the late spring. Purve was born August 2, 1929 in Hamiota, Manitoba. Purve lived on the family farm with John and Mary his parents, and eight siblings, Belle, Gwen, Bob, Russell, John, Jean, Keith and Lyle. Purve married his life-long companion Helen (predeceased) and began their life together in Winnipeg. Purve joined the Winnipeg Police Service and served 33 years until his retirement in 1983. Purve and Helen raised their six children Gay (Lorne), Ron (Deidre), David (Patricia), Beverley (Mike), Richard (Cheryl), and Michael (Paul), and have nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Purve enjoyed many years of retirement in good health and loved to visit his family and friends and enjoyed extensive travel. Dad was always lucky in cards, at the casino and in life. He was in Florida to witness a space shuttle launch and was in the cockpit of an airplane to witness Halley's Comet go by. We all enjoyed Dad's stories of the many changes he lived through from working the family farm with a team of six horses, to tractor power, to electricity arriving on the farm, to the invention of TV, the moon landing, and the dawn of the internet age - this last one perplexed Dad the most! Purve enjoyed a good game of cribbage and up to his last days continued to play cribbage with his family and staff at the personal care home. The family would like to express our sincerest appreciation to the staff at Middlechurch Personal Care Home for the attentive care Dad received during his short stay. Sorry to read of Purves passing. Peter and I spent many an evening with him and Helen at # 9 Legion...chatting, reminiscing, and of course laughing. Both he and Peter had lots of tales to tell, many of them not repeatable here! Pat Vandergraaf - Posted by: Purvis Ellery Sunley (old friend) on: Jan 17, 2015
