MARION BALOS It is with heavy hearts the Balos family announces the peaceful passing of Marion Balos on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the age of 72 years. Left to mourn and cherish her memory is her loving husband of 49 years, Gordon Balos. She also leaves to mourn many extended family members and close friends. Marion had lived her life to the fullest. She had faced many struggles throughout her life but always fought hard to overcome her obstacles. Marion had worked her way up to an executive position for MTS and devoted 37 years to the company. She married the love of her life Gordon Balos in 1965 and together they enjoyed travelling the world and spending days in their cabin cruiser drifting on the waters in Kenora. Marion had an exceptional green thumb and spent many days tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She also had a fond love for her rabbits. Marion made an impact on the people she met and befriended throughout her life and travels. She will be loved, deeply missed and always remembered. Marion's wishes were to have no formal service and a private family graveside took place on Friday, January 15, 2015 at Thomson In the Park Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Gordon: I am very sorry to hear of Marion's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Marion for 10 years in the Security Department in the early 1980s. I loved the fact that she was a trailblazer and I admired and respected her for who she was and what she did. She took me under her wing because she had also worked along side my mother earlier in her career. We had a mutual respect for eachother and she always made me feel valuable. Marion had a caring heart and and a great sense or humour. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: Lesley Truss (Co-worker at MTS Security Dept.) on: Jan 30, 2015

  • Dear Uncle Gordon; We are saddened to hear of the passing of Aunty Marion. She truly was one of a kind. An authentic person who told it as it is. We're grateful for the love and care which you provided for her at home and know that it has been very difficult on you and yet you did so with much grace. You truly held strong for her to allow her the privacy and dignity she wanted. We wish her soul much peace and will cherish the memories of our visits with you both. We are so sorry not to be able to attend the family service but our love and prayers are with you at this time. Please take the time to rest and care for yourself now. - Posted by: Denise & Derek Sydor (Aunt) on: Jan 17, 2015

  • I met Marion in the '80's while I was owner of a contract security services company and I bid on supply of security services to MTS properties. Upon being awarded the contract I worked closely with Marion to ensure we met the expectations as a service provider. Over the course of the 10 years I was in the contract business Marion was not just a Client to me, but a good friend. She broke ground for other women to enter the Security field in what was then a fairly male dominated profession. She was the ultimate business professional who I came to respect for her vision and fairness. In 1991 when I sold my business interest I asked Marion if she would be a business reference for me to which she gladly agreed and provided me with a glowing letter of reference which I still possess to this day. I relocated to Calgary a couple years later and Marion and I lost contact. Mr. Balos I send you my deepest condolences and although I don't believe I ever met you personally, I feel like I know you from the many times Marion spoke about your life together. - Posted by: Grant Hardman (Former Security Services Contractor) on: Jan 17, 2015

  • Marion hired me for the Security Department at MTS when I was fresh out of high school and had no real experience. She put her trust in me and I worked my hardest for her. I appreciate that she saw something in me I didn't even see myself at that time. I will always appreciate her leadership, confidence, work ethic and sense of humour. So full of energy and a positive attitude that was endless. I will always remember her Corvette. RIP Marion ... it was a pleasure. And thank you. - Posted by: Leslie (Sebastian) Hardy (employee of Marion's in 1979) on: Jan 17, 2015
