Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELFRIEDA BERARO (nee CYRANKIEWICZ) May 29, 1931 - January 11, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elfrieda Beraro, beloved wife of 60 years to Horst Beraro. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered always by her husband Horst, daughter Rosemarie (Fred), son Arnold (Lisa), grandchildren Fletcher (Angie), Hannah Rose (Jimmy), Holly (Devin) and Adam, her brother Herbert, sister Hedwig (Germany), and family in Salmon Arm, BC and in Kitchener, ON. Her daughter Teresa, father Kasimir, mother Nataliea, brother Edward, and her dearest friend Lydia predeceased Elfrieda. Elfrieda was born in Rozyszcze, Poland and moved to Hamburg, Germany as a child. In 1953, Elfrieda and her brother Herbert sailed to Canada, where she would meet and marry her husband Horst. They would settle in Winnipeg and quickly begin to raise their family. Elfrieda was a hard worker and took care of many families on top of her own over the years. Her fondest memories would be of her years with the Asper family. Elfrieda loved to cook for her family and friends. Her Sunday dinners always had more than needed, so that she could make care packages for her kids and close friends. Elfrieda loved to travel having visited Germany many times over the years as well as her regular trips to Grand Forks, Hawaii and Florida. When Elfrieda became an Oma she would devote her time to caring and loving her grandchildren, babysitting, going for walks, sleepovers and their special trips to Kildonan Park. She was the proudest of Oma's loving all of her grandchildren with the greatest of pride. Elfrieda loved to bike ride and would rather ride across town to visit a friend than take a bus. She loved dancing, gardening, baking and was well known for her banana bread, rouladen, homemade sauerkraut and incredibly wonderful tortes. She was the ultimate caregiver to her family and friends, and we will all miss her deeply. We would like to thank Riverview Health Centre and the staff on CD2 for being a part of the family during the final chapter of her life. We especially would like to thank Pastor Brian Bolkema of the Transcona Christian Reform Church for his religious guidance. A private family burial service has taken place at St. Vital Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association in memory of Elfrieda Beraro. Mom Because of you We believe in Angels

My last visit with Tante Elfie was filled with laughter, surprise and respect for this incredibly strong woman. Even though she was losing a foot to diabetes and in great pain, she still had the strength to sing "Hallelujah" at the top of her lungs as I wheeled her down the hallway at her residence. She took time to stop and chat with some of the other residents to introduce me and tell them I was her cousin visiting from BC. Rose and I visited each other quite a few times during the summer holidays as we were growing up, me in Ontario and her in Winnipeg. I always gained 10 pounds when I visited in the summer...as someone else mentioned, she was all about, "eat something" and this woman could bake OMGosh. Terry had her mother's talent for baking and cooking. She leaves behind a family still in mourning for her predeceased daughter, Terry. It has been a very brutal year for this family. This is another chapter written in the Beraro family's story. God Bless each one of you and comfort each other through this next very difficult adjustment. My love to all of you. I love you Tante. <3 - Posted by: Rita Beraro (Niece) on: Jan 23, 2015

Through my childhood and adolescence I remember many fun times visiting at the Beraro household, Mrs. B was always running around trying to make sure we had food to eat...She'd say "You girls are too skinny"! I also recall as we got older she made awesome wine which started more than a few fun times as well. You will be missed my dear but now you can dance to your heart's content, hugs to you from Lynn. - Posted by: Lynn Till (nee McIvor) (Family Friend) on: Jan 17, 2015

Tante Alfie was observing me eating a piece of Oma's torte. She gave me a very gentle look and then took a small gold fork and picked up a tiny piece of cake, a little of the banana and peach and then managed to scoop up a bit of whipped cream. Then she offered it to me. I gladly accepted, she was right. A lady needs to know how to properly enjoy a great desert. Thanks Tante Alfie, Love you, always ! - Posted by: Monika Snow (niece) on: Jan 17, 2015

Oma was an amazing person and a terrific Oma to me.I have fond memories of her taking my sister and I to the park across the street, of her making delicious food for everyone, of her being overly generous with gifts and of her being extremely caring and having a great sense of humour. Even recently she would always mention how when we would sleep over at her house, she would always give me a hot water bottle for my feet. I think we both knew it was a lovely memory and showed how much she cared about me. I cherish the time I got to spend with her and I will always miss her. - Posted by: Fletcher (grandson ) on: Jan 17, 2015
