ANNE SAMEC (nee KALYSHYN) August 15, 1924 - January 12, 2015 Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on January 12, 2015. at the age of 90 years. Mom was born in Ilawchy, Galicia, Ukraine, and grew up with three sisters and two brothers. She was predeceased by her parents Vasyl and Tekla Kalyshyn; sisters Marynka and Ksenka and brothers Michaylo and Ivan. Anne married Dmytro Samec 69 years ago in Germany, moved to Belgium and then immigrated to Canada in 1947 with an infant daughter. Mom loved to cook for her family and friends and worked in her garden when she was well. She loved to go into the woods for mushrooms and blueberries in her younger years. Anne is survived by her daughter Sonia Tomchuk (Don); son Mike Samec (Lesia); daughter Jean Gillich (Andy); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister Jean and numerous nieces and nephews in Ukraine. Divine Liturgy will be sung 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends desire, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 9Z9 or to Donwood Manor Personal Care Home, 171 Donwood Dr., Winnipeg, R2G 0V9.
