Alf, we were very sorry to hear about Louise. Our condolences. Sorry we just heard now. I enjoyed getting to know her better during BOMA lunch meetings in 2012. (our paths had crossed in small ways over the years up until then). As a newbie to BOMA, she took me under her wing at those lunches, introduced me to her colleagues and made sure I sat at her table. She had a big heart. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Paul & Shirley Martens (Acquaintance) on: Apr 13, 2015

I was privileged to meet Louise just before her ALS diagnosis, and through this time of her illness we have bumped into each other or corresponded on one subject or another as her ALS progressed. I was always so struck by the huge generosity of her spirit. Instead of growing angrier and more closed as this terrible illness took its toll, she seemed to expand and grow more open. She let people in to her new reality - a very brave and generous thing to do. Her kindness and gentleness were so apparent in her writing and in her interactions with others. Alf and Louise are both the heroes of this story. Their love and joy in each other, and the care Alf took of Louise, are an inspiration. Thank you both for teaching us so much. - Posted by: Terri Cherniack (acquaintance) on: Jan 29, 2015

Alf we had a brief but lovely lunch several years ago. I, like Louise am an artist, so we had much in common to talk about.......... my partner Al was present and at that time he had ALS.......... of course that was not to cross your paths for many years...... I was shocked and saddened to hear that Louise had the same condition.... may she rest in peace and you like myself will find some comfort in the fact that it did not last any longer than it did...... she was not only nice, but lovely too. Sincerely, Marlyn Macdonald.......... - Posted by: marlyn macdonald (brief meeting in vancouver) on: Jan 28, 2015

Louise. You will be missed dearly. I remember your laugh and your smile like I saw you yesterday. Although it had been a couple of years. Thanks for being a wonderful person and sharing my special day with my family. Thanks for being cool and fun to hang out with at the races in Gimili. Thanks for being you. Love you Louise. RIP. We enjoyed Louise very much and have lovely memories of meals at their house, party skits and, of course, the famous Rolling Stone parody. Conversation was always lively and we shared her love of art and the delight she took in the house by the river. She will be greatly missed. We admire the dignity with which she and Alf dealt with such a destructive disease. - Posted by: Jill and Shaun Walton (Friend) on: Jan 22, 2015
