DOROTHY KAAKE Suddenly with her closest family members by her side our mother Dorothy Kaake passed away in the early hours of January 19, 2015. Dorothy will be remembered by her daughter Sheila, son-in-law Mike, daughter Melinda and grandchildren Brock, Megan and Jaret, and Terri (Dave) grandchildren Mathew and Amanda (Aron). Also surviving her are two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was the last surviving child of 10 children born to Sarah and Samuel Lewis on January 25, 1921. She is predeceased by her mother and father, husband Gordon Kaake, sisters Annemay Lewis, Gwen Gibson, Pinky Holstein, Kathleen McKnight, Corinne Boyd and her brothers Henry, John, Fellow and Gordie Lewis. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg where she lived all of her life. She graduated high school from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and was married in 1957. Mom had a feisty personality and was very fussy about all her things. She could be quiet and shy and then make you laugh with an amusing one liner. Mom always liked to look nice and enjoyed getting out and doing things. She was willing to go anywhere, anytime. Throughout her years she travelled all across Canada including a trip overseas to Europe with her husband and sister-in-law Collette. In later years she enjoyed getting out for her Sunday dinners and her drives out to Winnipeg Beach and Gimli. Her pride and joy was her house on Kirkfield Street where she lived for over 50 years. She loved to relax and sit on the front porch with a cup of tea. A special thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place 3rd floor and to Misericordia Health Centre 6th floor Cornish for taking such good care of our mother. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Misericordia Health Centre Foundation. Rest in peace mom, you were loved deeply, will be sadly missed, and will always be remembered. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held on Monday, January 26 where she will be laid to rest with her husband at Brookside Cemetery.

We are so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. Both my mom and myself have fond memories of Dorothy. She was always a lot of fun and had such a mild demeanor. Mom talks of her often. May you take comfort in knowing she is at peace. - Posted by: Laurie Cadarian and Vera Halbert (Former Neighbor on Kirkfield) on: Jan 26, 2015

Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers are sent to the family. My Mom and I truly miss Dorothy's company at the dinner table. However, I know that she is in a beautiful place now and is able to breathe easily and freely, and enjoy her cup of tea with friends and family who have been waiting for her. Warm hugs! - Posted by: Sherry and Heather Heppner (Friends) on: Jan 25, 2015
