ANNA FAST October 10, 1925 - January 20, 2015 It is with sad hearts and much love we say good-bye to our mother, Anna Fast, who peacefully passed into the arms of the Lord on January 20, 2015. Anna was born on October 10, 1925 in the German-Mennonite settlement of Rosenort, Ukraine. She was the eldest of the family and developed her nurturing nature caring for her younger siblings during times of hardship and oppression. Anna immigrated to Germany where she met her husband Henry and they were married in Diersbutel, Germany in 1945. They were fortunate to immigrate to Canada in 1948 with their infant daughter Anna-Liese and settled in Chilliwack, BC, welcoming the birth of their second child, John. Mom's journey continued with a family move to Winnipeg in 1949 where they settled in the community of North Kildonan and the family eventually grew to include four more children, Linda, Rudy, Anthony and Angela. Mom was baptized in North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church in 1950 and her faith was her rock throughout her life. Mom was a loving and dedicated home-maker and, as children, we were fortunate to be raised with the unwavering security and support she provided in our home. After ensuring that her children were established and independent, she shared her time and giving nature with volunteer endeavours at the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and within her church community. Her knitting skills ensured that as children we never had store bought mittens or scarves and every child and grandchild has an Oma blanket or slippers. These gifts of knitting were also extended to the organizations she volunteered for. Mom embraced people and took a genuine interest in others' feelings and thoughts. She enjoyed times socializing at the family cottage at Falcon Lake and later taking road trips in the travel van. Mom's love easily crossed the generations as her grandchildren loved her completely and she had precious relationships with each and every one. Many happy times were spent in the kitchen teaching her grandchildren traditional Mennonite recipes, and we treasure the legacies she left us. Survived and held in memory by children Anne (Glen), Linda (Walter "Porky"), Rudy (Linda), Anthony, and Angela (Shaun), 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by eldest son John in 2011, and husband Henry in 2012. Funeral service Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery. If friends desire, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or MCC. Ruhe Sanft, Liebe Mutti

It is with saddened heart that I found out Mom passed away while I was in Texas. She will always hold a "Special" place in my heart. We last spoke in October last year just before I went south and she told me again , she was glad I was her daughter-in-law and sorry to my present husband (whom she met) I would always be her daughter-in-law. I Love You, Mom and will miss our talks. Please say Hi, to Dad and John! now I have another star watching over me. Oma, you are loved with a love beyond telling and missed with a grief beyond all tears. If I could pack up my car and drive to spend the day with you I would, but heaven is just too far away. So, until we meet again my beautiful Oma, know that we loved you on earth and we love you in heaven. Each life, no matter how fragile or brief, forever changes the world. We have been shattered by heartache, but a family is a circle of love, not broken by a loss, but made stronger by the memories. You have left footprints on our hearts and I know that with every twinkle in a star and with every raindrop that falls, Oma is sharing her love with us. We love you and we miss you Oma. I will win a car one day on Price is Right for us :) - Posted by: Pamela Kachur (Grand daughter ) on: Jan 26, 2015

Linda, I am sorry for your loss of your Mom. I chatted with her several times after she moved into Kingsford Haus [and especially after my Mom died]. I looked for her whenever I came for lunch, and she was always cheerful and friendly. - Posted by: Anne Sigurdson (Thiessen) (friend) on: Jan 26, 2015
