HENRY (HANK) DE JONG It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Henry de Jong, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on January 18, 2015. Hendrik (Henry) was born in Nijemirdum, the Netherlands, the seventh of 10 children of Harmen and Gepke de Jong. In 1952 the family immigrated to Winnipeg where Hank, his brother and younger sisters attended school. Hank was a born salesman who started working at Eaton's in the Men's Department, moving to various sales jobs before becoming the rep for Seiko/Pulsar and finally as an independent agent for a number of jewellery lines until his retirement. Pauline and Hank were fortunate to have many opportunities to travel the world and make many lasting friendships together. Hank was a wonderful travel companion, as he had a thirst for knowledge and a great sense of adventure. After they retired, Pauline and Hank spent their winters in Mexico and for the past six years, in Florida, where Hank found a new golf community and they made very good friends. He missed golfing with the Oakwood Group this past summer opting to spend most of his time at the cottage at Caddy Lake, his special place, cruising around on his pontoon boat and enjoying the company of friends and family. He was predeceased by his father and mother, his oldest brother Ynse and his older sister Bertha. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Pauline Fia; his son Michael (Pat), grandchildren Mitchell and Rylee; his daughter Lisa (Rick), grandchildren Riley and Ashton. He is also survived by his brother Lou, and sisters Lena, Hinke, Grace, Jessie, Etta and Gerta as well as numerous nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare and Urgent Care especially Deb Scott for her compassion and help, Dr. Qureshi and the nurses at Victoria Hospital CancerCare for their attention and kindness to Hank. Pauline wishes to thank their friends who were such a support and were with her every step of the way particularly the last month, especially the Mottola's and her "lake family" who helped her in so many ways. "I can never lose one whom I have loved to the end, One to whom my soul cleaves so firmly does not go away, but only goes before" A celebration of Hank's Life will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, with reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com
