DARCY ANDREW CHIHONIK October 7, 1971- December 22, 2014 Peacefully with family and friends at his side, Darcy Andrew, passed away December 22, 2014 at the Asper Centre, St. Boniface Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Stacy Mae, daughter Ashley Mae, parents Candy and Larry Chihonik, step brothers Shaun and Andre, step sister Adrienne, father-in-law Stanley Gurniak, and grandmothers Bernice Ellor (93) and Adeline Chihonik (94). He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Marge Gurniak, grandfathers Clive Ellor and John Chihonik. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Darcy attended Victory Elementary, Jefferson Junior High and Maples Collegiate. He played T-ball, little league baseball and excelled in track winning many medals. Then because of his interest in "Conan the Barbarian" began weight training and bodybuilding, turning his basement into a home gym, where he would spend hours every day with his friends Ray, Jason, Bradley and Ron. As a youngster taking a lengthy trip to Vancouver and numerous trips to Saskatchewan pique his interest in camping, which he continued with Stacy and Ashley, setting up the old tent at sites around Manitoba on long weekends and summer holidays. He also managed a trip to Hawaii and Florida without tents or sleeping bags. But nothing could compare to his interest in all things Star Wars. Devoting his entire bedroom to memorabilia, eventually spreading to the entire house. His favorite day was Halloween when he would dress up as his favorite Star Wars character Darth Vader. Calling himself "Darc Vader" taking Ashley trick or treating. His work experience started at Beaver Lumber, Atomic Transport and finally the last 15 years at ABS Warehousing where he was well liked by the staff and management. A memorial service was held at Cropo Funeral Chapel December 31, 2014. Family members would like to thank Dr. Shah and staff at the Asper Centre, St. Boniface Hospital for all their efforts; to Debbie Karpenko and Nan Wojcikowski for their strength and support and all those who braved one the coldest days this winter to attend the service.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We were lucky to have gone on one of the Birds Hill Park camping trips. There was a picnic table, in a distance, Darcy and Allan hooked it up to Al’s car and dragged it to his campsite. We would spend many late nights in Al’s garage, "The Jockey Room." We all sort of became family. We are missing our Darcy daily. Rest well dear friend.
