NOREEN FAITH GERBRANDT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Noreen Faith Gerbrandt on February 4, 2015. She had been living with metastatic breast cancer for almost 10 years, but she never saw her years with cancer as battling the disease or losing the battle to cancer. To Noreen, the cancer was living with her and she lived her life accordingly, in spite of having to schedule everything around her treatments. Noreen leaves behind her children Jeffrey, Gregory, and Daniel and Janice Reimer, her grand-dog Boscoe, her beloved sister and friend Marilyn Gerbrandt, and her beloved friend Maria VanLeusden. Noreen was born January 3, 1958 in Steinbach, Manitoba. She lived in Steinbach for many years and it was there that she gave birth to her three wonderful boys Jeffrey, Gregory and Daniel Reimer. She was predeceased by her father Walter Gerbrandt in 2000 and her sister Grace Bartel in 2012. She also leaves behind her mother Tina Hiebert, sister Shirley Klassen, brother Ken Gerbrandt (Virginia), sister Carol Guenther, and sister Brenda Funk. We extend special thanks to oncologist Dr. Lorne Brandes, Kathy and the nurses in CancerCare and the medical staff and aides at Health Sciences Centre MICU GA-4. A Celebration Service for Noreen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Noreen requested that, in lieu of flowers, "do one kind deed for someone else." THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • You helped to change my life Noreen and for this I will be eternally grateful. You are a soul who showed compassion and love to anyone even when it was difficult for you. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Thank you for the wisdom you shared with many people. You will be missed and never forgotten. Sincere sympathy to her boys who she loved with all her heart and was so proud of. - Posted by: Charlene (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2015

  • Noreen was truly a sweet soul, and remarkable human being. I will always remember her quiet dignity, and the grace with which she carried on fully enjoying her life, while battling such a relentless disease. I will miss her. To Noreen's children, and her entire family, please accept my sincere condolences. - Posted by: Michelle Powder (Staff, CancerCare Manitoba) on: Feb 09, 2015

  • I loved going for breakfast with Noreen and Dave when I would come to Winnipeg to visit my mom. Even the day my mom passed, it started with a meeting then breakfast with them... I will miss the huge smile she faced life with. Love ya Noreen... the prayers continue to flow your way. Mark - Posted by: Mark Petursson (Friend) on: Feb 09, 2015

  • It is with profound regret I read of Noreen's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Noreen through CancerCare and was fortunate to be one of her many CancerCare drivers> We shared many good laughs during our treatment trips. It is with regret my wife and I will not be able to attend tomorrow, as we are vacationing on Vancouver Island. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Donalkd Graham (Friend) on: Feb 09, 2015

  • Noreen was a wonderful example of faith, strength and courage. Her health battle was long and difficult but she handled it with dignity. She smiled and laughed even when it was so difficult for her. She was a strong woman, a good mother and a great friend. And she laughed at my feeble attempts at Mennonite jokes. Rest peacefully Noreen. - Posted by: Bill & Angie (Friends) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • I am really missing you Noreen. You were my inspiration. I learned so much from you. You also lifted my spirits so many times. My deepest condolences to your sons and family. I will always think of you. - Posted by: Carole Ross ((Metastatic Breast Cancer Support Group)) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • It is with sadness and a deep sense of loss that I learned of the news about our dear "warrior" friend Noreen. She modelled so many qualities (strength, compassion, honesty and especially, humour) that gave us energy and hope. Although I mourn her passing, she will always remain a unique friend and woman of great strength and wisdom whose memory I will always cherish. As I am out of town and unable to attend her celebration, I send my deepest condolences to her sons and the family on their tragic loss. BUT I will always celebrate her life. - Posted by: Marilyn Templeton (Metastatic Breast Cancer Support Group) on: Feb 07, 2015

  • Thank you for your courage and for showing me how to smile in life's difficulties. - Posted by: Lori R. (Sister in the Fellowship) on: Feb 07, 2015

  • My Noreen, You were a wonderful friend, I met you 9 years ago when I moved here from Toronto. I was homeless with a three month old baby. You embraced me and taught me more lessons in life than anyone. You were there for me anytime anywhere for anything. I was never judged and always greeted with open arms, open ears and most of all an open heart. Selflessly you shared with me many details most would keep private which showed me we are all human. I loved bringing you snacks and magazines at cancer care when I was working! From all of our lengthy telephone conversations or starbucks therapy you were my pillar! I am sorry for the loss for your children whom you spoke of constantly. I will miss you and will carry you forever in my heart. A beautiful woman with a beautiful soul! - Posted by: Nicole Agnew (Friend) on: Feb 07, 2015
