MARY KIRNER
Born: Mar 11, 1932
Date of Passing: Feb 06, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY KIRNER On February 6, 2015, with our hearts full of love and great sadness, our mother, grandma and great-grandma Mary Kirner passed away at Selkirk General Hospital. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by husband Eric, her children Gord (Cathie), Don (Liz) and Tom (Lianne), as well as daughter-in-law Donna Kirner and son-in-law Charlie Stewart; grandchildren Sarah, Allan, Ken, Christina, Eric (Lindsay), Kaitlin (Ethan), Stephanie, Matthew (Crystal), Michael (Meghan), Aaron, Trina, Marcy (Jason), Jason (Nicole), and great-grandchildren Diego, Nash, Weston, McKenna, Kayla and Justin. She will also be missed by her brother Don (Liz), and sister Joan. Waiting in heaven to greet her, are her sons James and Karl; daughter Wendy; her parents Florence and Gordon, and her brother Jim. Mary was born on March 11, 1932 in Quill Lake, SK. She moved to Selkirk to train to be a psych nurse and this is where she met the love of her life Eric. They were married 61 years. Family was an important part of Mary's life. She was proud of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching them grow and having their own families. This also extended to her "adopted" family, because once you are taken into the Kirner family you are a part of it and so is your family. That is just the way it is. Mary took great pride in her home and was the most amazing hostess making everyone feel welcome. The Kirner house was always filled with love and laughter. It was the setting for many Sunday dinners, family parties and celebrations and you could always count on Mary to have fresh baked buns at all of them. She loved the time she and Eric spent with the family whether it was camping or going to Mexico or when someone just dropped by for a visit they always had time for you. You always felt welcome whether you were new to the family or long time friend. Mary enjoyed the moment, the conversations, a glass of wine, cards, games or dancing she always liked to join in the fun. She will be forever remembered for her welcoming smile, her love and guidance and her kindness to all. Mary was one great lady and is going to be greatly missed by all. Mary and Eric enjoyed traveling and in the later years spending the winter in Arizona. This also became a place for family and friends to visit them. "I go from you gently for it is my time to take the next step in this journey of mine. Don't grieve for me long I've not left you alone for I will be with you in love that we've known. That love is forever and someday when it's time you'll join me again on this journey of mine." The family would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and Selkirk home care for their compassion and loving care for Mary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Funeral service will be held at St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, 105 Little Britain Road, Lockport on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Wollbaum presiding. Tommy and family, my heartfelt condolences to you all. I have fond memories of Canada Day weiner roasts and fireworks when I was young and your mom was always so kind, energetic, happy and laughing. She always had a big smile on her face. - Posted by: Suzanne Preun (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2015

All my life I made the trek either from the Quill Lake farm as a child and Saskatoon or Regina after growing up, to spend holidays with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. I have nothing but fond memories of pea soup, that cold concrete swimming pool, pig barn escapades and schützenfest. The annual Labour Day Classic and Banjo Bowl CFL game was not complete without a phone call with Auntie Mary to remind me that the Bombers should beat the Riders...this time! I am "family" but for those even closer to her than me, I extend my deepest sympathy as we all try to adjust to our days and nights without her. Thank goodness for memories. - Posted by: Lorey Elliott (Warrack) (Neice ) on: Feb 13, 2015

I met Mary many years ago, probably around 1976. Mary and I were never close but it was because of her that I pursued a nursing career. If it wasn't for her I would have probably not become a nurse. She used to tell me about her psych nursing experiences and she motivated me and encouraged me. Even though we were never really friends she did influence me. At that time in my life I kinda felt like I was on a road to nowhere. So sorry to hear of her passing. My condolences to Eric and all of the rest of Mary's family. - Posted by: Sherry Ursel (Acquaintance) on: Feb 13, 2015

For all of Mary's family. I had the honour of meeting both Mary and Eric though the marriage of our son Jason to Mary's granddaughter Marcy. Mary is an amazing lady who made all she met feel welcome and comfortable. She loved life and always had a smile and infectious laugh. It was my privilege to have known Mary and her family. Mary leaves a big hole in the hearts of all who knew her. My deepest sympathy to all her family. Love Angie - Posted by: Angie Skoryk (Family friend) on: Feb 11, 2015

I first met Mary and Eric and family when their future Daughter in law Donna first met them too; back in 1974. I visited with them many times since then in Lockport and also last year in Arizona. I have wonderful memories of Mary. The write up about how welcoming she was to everyone is very accurate. - Posted by: Cathie Watson (Family friend) on: Feb 11, 2015

My deepest condolences. I have fond childhood memories of your family. One that stands out is when your brother Jim brought his horse to our house and he put me on its back and led me around the yard; I was very young and never forgot his gentle kindness. You were my brother Barry's second family and had a great impact on him as he spent more of his time with "The Kirners" than at home. Our families have a long history together growing up in the same community. I know you have been through a great deal of loss and my heart goes out to you all. In deepest sympathy, all my love and compassion, Kim Nagam xx - Posted by: Kim Nagam (Family friend) on: Feb 09, 2015
