ELAINE BARBARA NASH (nee SMITH) It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Elaine on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at her residence in Bethania Haus. Elaine was born on July 22, 1934 the eldest of two daughters. She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Robert Smith, her in-laws John and Laura Nash, and her sister Ruth MacKnight. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Allan; three sons, Brian, Howard (Pam), and Kevin; six grandchildren, Ryan, Rory, Jared, Owen, Evan, and Aurissa; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ozzy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lorraine and Jim Gilbert; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Elaine and Allan met in 1951 and were married on August 28, 1954. They lived for a short period in the Weston area, moving to Windsor Park in 1959 where they resided for 46 years. They then spent five years in a suite on Alpine Avenue, prior to their final move, Mom in Bethania Haus apartments and Dad in Bethania Personal Care. Mom was an excellent caregiver, mother, cook, and above all, friend. She was an avid reader and could have had her own library. Elaine and Allan and their family were long time members of St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, where Mom enjoyed singing in choir, as well the Sweet Adeline's. Mom worked for many years at Eaton's and then finished her career as receptionist at D'arcy and Deacon. Mom was the ultimate and tireless caregiver to Dad after he suffered a major stroke in 1982, right until the end, fortunately being able to have dinner together the evening prior to her passing. Mom was a true trooper throughout her recent illness, surgery, and treatments, never once complaining. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and most recently visits with her great-grandson Gavin. We would like to extend a warm thank you to all the special friends at Bethania Haus, Bethania Personal Care, and CancerCare, for your kindness and compassion, it is appreciated beyond measure. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1006 Nairn Ave., Winnipeg, MB., Fraser and Helen Hunter officiating.
