Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT OSCAR HALLGRIMSON Albert Oscar (Ab) Hallgrimson passed away peacefully in Glenboro, Manitoba, at the Personal Care Home on February 10, 2015, aged 98. Albert was born in Edmonton February 7, 1917, to Asgeir and Kristjana (Sveinson) Hallgrimson. The son of a silent-movie-theatre owner, the family moved to live in Los Angeles until his father's untimely death when Albert was six years old. Albert came to Glenboro to attend school and live with his Auntie Imba Eggertson and family. At age 11, he moved in with his Uncle Albert and Auntie Anna Sveinson on the farm south of Glenboro, attending Frey School. After completing school, Albert worked at a dairy in Winnipeg and farmed with Oscar Peterson in the R.M. of Argyle before enlisting in the Army in 1942. He was posted to B Troop, 35th Battery, Light Anti-aircraft, 1st Corps, Canadian Army Overseas. The troop landed in Sicily in 1943, and moved north through Italy. In Marseille, France, he was Corporal in the 35 Traffic Control, then changed to 35 Provost Corps and was in Holland until the end of the war. He boarded the Queen Elizabeth on February 14, 1946 and made passage back to Canada via New York City. In 1947 Albert purchased what was known as the Dale farm and began mixed farming south of Glenboro in the Hecla/Grund District, marrying Evelyn Ingibjorg Johnson in 1955. There they raised three children before retiring from farming in 1978 and moving to Christie Street in Glenboro. In retirement, Albert and Evelyn enjoyed curling, golfing, bicycling, cross-country skiing, travelling, socializing at the Raystone Centre and spending time with family, friends and neighbours. Following Evelyn's death in 2009, Albert began residing at the Glenboro Personal Care Home in January 2010. Albert was also predeceased by twin brothers Benidick and one at birth (1913), sister Helene Hall, and in-laws Flora (Vic Mitchell), Dorothy (Bob Cooney), and Jackie Johnson. Albert is survived by his son Lorne (Nadine) and daughters Heather and Sharon (Glen Porter); by his grandchildren, to whom he was a proud and loving Afi: Jared, Keegan, and Cole Porter, and Tess Hallgrimson; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Albert is remembered as a sweet gentleman, loving and unassuming, with a great sense of humour. The family thanks the amazing team at the Glenboro Personal Care Home for their professionalism, kindness and compassion, and for the care provided to our Dad and Afi for the past five years. To honour Albert's wishes, no funeral will take place; a private interment will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Albert's memory to the Grund Lutheran Church Memorial Fund c/o RM of Argyle, PO Box 40, Baldur, MB R0K 0B0, or to a charity of one's choice. Jamieson's Funeral Service of Glenboro is in care of arrangements.
