VICTOR WILLIAM MOSKAL Peacefully after a brief illness, on Friday, February 13, 2015, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Victor Moskal, aged 90 years of Gimli, MB, beloved husband of the late Elsie. Victor was born in Mink Creek, MB, on May 28, 1924, to Catherine (Wolochatiuk) and Paul Moskal. He grew up in Watson, SK with his brothers Walter and Stanley. He enlisted in the Canadian Army when he turned 18, serving overseas in the Second World War with the Engineers in Holland, Belgium, Germany, and Scotland. He served for a year in Edinburgh after the war ended before he was discharged. Victor came home to Canada, to his parents' home in Grandview, MB. He became a teacher, and taught in Amaranth and Portage la Prairie. He then worked for Indian Affairs, travelling between Reserve schools in Saskatchewan teaching woodworking and industrial arts. He was based in North Battleford. While home for summer vacation, Victor met Elsie Bagan in Dauphin, and after a courtship involving many miles of weekend driving between North Battleford and Dauphin, they were married on July 14, 1960. In June 1961 their daughter Kathryn was born. They moved to Wetaskiwin, AB, where Victor taught at Hobbema. In September 1962, daughter Adrienne was born. In September 1963, their son Victor completed the family. In 1965 Victor was transferred to Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island, ON. In 1970, Victor and Elsie decided to move back to Manitoba, they settled in Gimli, MB, where Victor taught woodworking at Gimli Composite High School. He earned his B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba. He pulled the family camper to exotic campus locations such as Winnipeg and Menominee, Wisconsin, so the family could enjoy a camping holiday while he took specialized summer courses. Victor retired from teaching in 1982. He was able to travel, enjoying a trip to Ukraine and Poland with his brother Stanley, and his son Victor and daughter-in-law MaryAnn Parent. He enjoyed reading, history, his grandchildren, and filling his home in Aspen Park with his treasures. Victor spent his last years at Betel Home in Gimli. Gimli home care and the staff at Betel Home were wonderful. Victor was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elsie in 2001; his brother Walter; his parents Cassie and Paul, and son-in-law Rick Henderson. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Kathy Henderson and Adrienne (Bob Chomycz) Moskal; son Victor; granddaughter Brynne (Devin) and grandson Robert Henderson; brother Stanley Moskal of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Eva Moskal of Veregin, SK; Elsie's siblings, and many beloved nieces and nephews; and his Very Best Friend Eric Zalevich, and his parents, Melvin and Angela Zalevich, whose friendship Victor treasured. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Viewing at 10:00 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 113 7th Avenue, Gimli, Manitoba.
