RENE GASTON ROELAND Rene passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on Monday, February 23, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sheila (Grant), Diane (Ron), Marcel (Laurie), and Brenda (Glen); grandchildren: Barrett (Jessica), Amanda (David), Ashley, Shane, Danielle (Shaun), Kylie, Paul and Braeden; great-grandchildren: Logan, Nevaeh, Sophie, and Easton, and a very special lady friend, Della and her family. He will also be missed by his siblings Frank, Caesar (Jean), Angele, Rachel, Regina, Laurent, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rene was predeceased by his grandson Bruce, his sister-in-law Noella, and his brothers-in-law Gaston and Gerald. Dad was born January 13, 1931 in Somerset, MB. The family moved from Somerset to Oak Bluff and finally settled on Dawson Road in Navin, MB. Dad was a grain and dairy farmer for many years. In the 1970s, after giving up the dairy farming, he moved to Plessis Road. Dad continued to grain farm and also started driving school bus, which he enjoyed very much. Most of all, Dad enjoyed being a volunteer and board member with the Belgian Club and Belgian Veterans Branch #107. Whether it be playing Santa for the kids, volunteering for Kermis Week, marching in Parades, bingo nights, playing cards or just sitting at the "BS" table and talking with friends. Dad shared lots of good times with family and friends. In keeping with Rene's wishes a funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald Street with viewing one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rene's memory may be made to the Belgian Veterans Branch #107 or to CancerCare Manitoba. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. • My dear brother Rene, will be sadly missed by me and his family. I'll miss when visiting family in Winnipeg, my comfy bed and tasty meals. Death came quickly for you, but now you have no more pain and suffering, and you're in heaven, where according to our Pope in Rome, even doggies go to heaven.
