Born: Feb 20, 1925
Date of Passing: Feb 24, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN MICHALISHYN February 20, 1925 - February 24, 2015 Jean passed away after a long and full life. She will be greatly missed by her children, Mary-Anne Hardy, Ihor Michalishyn (Marika Banias), Kathy Michalishyn (Albert Schellen); her grandchildren, Lara Hardy, Mike Hardy (Jennifer), Marta LeClair, Patrick and Natalia Michalishyn, and her great-grandchildren Owen, Liam, Julia and Wesley. She also leaves an extended family of cousins both here and in Ukraine. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Peter; her parents, Maria and Kaspar; her sister, Nel Kusie; and her brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Olga Kusie. Born in Fort Whyte, Manitoba, and raised in Winnipeg, Jean was actively involved in the Ukrainian Catholic community throughout her life. Hers was a full and busy life, especially her volunteer work that made her so happy. She volunteered at school while her children were growing up, cooked at summer camps in Ukrainian Park, and was a member of B.V.M. U.C.W.L.C. and Holy Family Home Ladies' Auxiliary, holding many board and executive positions there over the years. Her greatest joy, however, came from family and friends. The numerous social occasions and family celebrations leave us all with so many memories of love, laughter and good food. In her later years, new blessings came when Jean and Peter moved to the S.S.M.I. Seniors' Tower, where every day brought fellowship with her precious circle of friends. There was always something to celebrate. Funeral service will held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. In accordance with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family extends appreciation and thanks to all those who cared for Jean during her last complicated journey: the staff at Health Sciences Centre, Holy Family Home, Dr. Terry Babick, and the care team at Seven Oaks Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lubov Foundation, 1085 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9 or Parkinson Society Manitoba, 414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2. We send you our deepest sympathy. Our memories of Auntie Jean are happy ones. She had a nice laugh and seemed happiest baking and cooking for her family and friends. We lived across the lane on Burrows when she lived on Magnus and so we got to share in the goodies!
