CLAUDETTE EK CARDINAL Claudette Ek Cardinal passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital at 7:43 p.m. She was the daughter of the late Marie Thérèse Goulet Courchaine and the late Joseph François Courchaine. She was predeceased by her husband Allan Edward Cardinal, siblings Archie, Rita and Roger and daughters Laurie and Heather. She will be missed by sisters Isabel and Patricia. Also left to cherish her memory are her children Valerie, Lester, Buff, Lindsay, Frederick, Giselle, and Andrea; her grandchildren Sam, Summer, Therese, Jeffrey, Adam, Aja, Quintin, Dustin, Gregory, Heather, Jarod, Cody, Melanie, Logan, Brandi, Ashton, Jaylen, Tristan, Kaleb, Preston and Rowan. Her great-grandchildren Aidan, Cooper, Jaxon, Taytum, Isaac, Brydon, Cailyn, Grayden, Cordell, Braxton, Jordan, Noah, Jacob, Kayden, Bentley, Chelsea, Seth, Xavier, Lance, Noah, Owen, Aaron, Madison, Deja, Olivia, Cayden, Kahlil and two great-great-grandchildren Kaidence and Kashus. Claudette was a very well loved and respected elder in the Metis community. She was also a member of the Manitoba Metis Federation and lifetime member of L'Union National de Metis. Claudette worked in the Dialysis Unit of the Health Sciences Centre for 26 years. She was happily acknowledged as the only legally blind member of a dart league that played at the Nicolette here in St. Boniface. She also earned a certificate for completing a course on the Native People's of Canada. Claudette fought along side other Metis elders to reclaim and restore a traditional Metis gravesite in Pembina, North Dakota. She worked for many years and in many ways to preserve Metis culture. Claudette has left a legacy of pride in our heritage among all her descendants. Claudette was known to all as "Mom" In Keeping with Claudette's wishes, cremation has taken place and a service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald Street. In keeping with Claudette's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald Street.
