BYRON ERNEST SNEAD Peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2015, Byron passed away at Oakview Place. Byron will be lovingly remembered by his children, George (Shirley), Debbie (Murray) Luschinski and William; grandchildren Lisa (Lee) Henderson, Patrick (Kymberli) Snead, Brett and Tyson Luschinski; his great-grandchildren Jordanna and Adria Henderson; his Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Bev and Bud Edstrom, Blanche and Bob Brooks and Jackie Molacek, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen, of 62 years and brother-in-law David Molacek. Byron was born in Winnipeg on March 9, 1927, to Ernest and Geraldine (nee More) Snead. He was raised in the Fort Rouge area where he attended its schools and St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church. After graduating from Kelvin High School, he enlisted in the army to serve in the Second World War continuing a family tradition, and then extended his service as a reservist for over 25 years. After the war, he began working at the Canadian Grain Commission where he met Eileen. They were married on October 22, 1949. He remained in the public service, working for various federal departments (Forestry, Fisheries and Environment). He obtained an accounting accreditation thereby advancing his career from clerk to "Chief of the Administrative Branch". He transferred to Burlington to work at the Canadian Centre of Inland Waters until his retirement in 1985. He and Eileen returned to St. Norbert to be near their family. They both volunteered at the Christmas Cheer Board for over 20 years. In his later years, they moved to a condominium on Watson St. where he served as a Board Member. At the end of his work day, Dad always found time for curling, the army reserves, advancing his education as well as church business. Dad's other pastimes were reading, doing crossword puzzles, stamp collecting and yelling at the Blue Bombers. Throughout his life he enjoyed the companionship of his many dogs. He and Eileen also travelled and especially enjoyed the cruises through the Panama Canal and the Caribbean. Unfortunately in his later years, Alzheimer's robbed him of all of these life pleasures. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Debbie and George would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to our brother Bill, who was there for Dad every single day for the last five years. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Oakview Place who provided care and comfort to Byron. If friends so desire, donations can be made in Byron's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
