FRANCES BLAHEY (nee KICENKO) November 9, 1948 - February 28, 2015 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Frances Blahey, at the age of 66 at Concordia Hospital with her family at her side. Her courageous battle with many serious health issues over the years was truly admirable. She was pre-deceased by her parents William and Bernice Kicenko, and her in-laws John and Ann Blahey. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Grzenda. Frances is lovingly remembered by her husband Bob, daughter Cheryl, son-in-law Joe DaSilva and grandchildren Jacob and Ethan. Fran was born, raised and educated in Poplarfield, Manitoba. She married the love of her life Bob on May 13, 1967 and they moved to Transcona, Manitoba where they raised their daughter. Frances will always be remembered for her amazing cooking and listening skills. She was an incredibly strong and independent woman who faced every challenge with dignity and spunk. She cherished her memories of family vacations especially the trip with her grandchildren in 2012 to Disney World. One of her passions in life included her family especially her grandchildren. She celebrated all successes generously with food and love. A celebration of Fran's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Oakbank United Church, 582 Balsam Crescent, Oakbank, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be gratefully directed in Fran's name to The Dream Factory or The Arthritis Society. VICHNAYA PAMYAT www.seasonsfunerals.ca

  • I have had the privilege of getting to know Frances through our nurse/patient relationship for the last 4 to 5 years in the Health Sciences Centre Rheumatology Day Hospital unit. Accompanied by her family always, Bob, Cheryl, and two little people often waited patiently for Frances to finish her treatment. I will remember Frances as a kind, compassionate, patient, loving individual always presenting as a fine, beautiful, and distinguished lady. Despite her daily struggles with pain and discomfort she always had a smile and a positive comment or encouragement for others around her. I offer my sincere condolences to Frances' family, loved ones and friends. Also to my colleagues in the Rheumatology department I offer my gratitude, thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of Frances. I am blessed to have known Frances and pray that she has found peace and freedom from pain for eternity. - Posted by: Sharon Bennett (Nurse/Friend) on: Mar 12, 2015

  • I was saddened and dismayed to learn of Frances' passing and was filled with a great sense of loss and grief. Frances was my high school buddy. I will always remember our walks from school to town to buy a drink or some sweets with good conversation and laughter. Frances is with the angels and her beloved parents. I will remember her sweetness, laughter and to always to see the bright side. I wish I could attend the service to celebrate the life of Frances, but I will be away. I hope that as the pain of her loss lessens, that the fog of grief that masks our cherished memories of her will be forever in our thoughts. Bob, so sorry for your loss. My heartfelt sympathy to all who knew and loved her. - Posted by: Kristine Palsson (Friend) on: Mar 04, 2015
