WILLIAM JOHN PURVIS
Born: Jul 14, 1935
Date of Passing: Mar 08, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) JOHN PURVIS Sadly we mourn the death of our beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa Bill on Sunday, March 8, 2015. Bill was born on July 14, 1935 in Selkirk, Manitoba He is now with his much loved granddaughter Nicole who predeceased him. Bill was also predeceased by his parents William and Johanna, and sisters Winnifred and Helen. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverley; sons Bill Jr. (Christine) and Darren (Tyler); his daughters Robin and Colleen; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many friends. He spent many years in the Arctic and was so proud of the young men he hired and trained. Bill was an avid hunter and it was his biggest thrill to teach and share his knowledge with young people. In later years he gave up hunting and became a nature lover. He could name all the birds that came to the feeders. Bill was a family man first and loved us dearly but sometimes could be bossy. "My Rules" he would say. In keeping with Bill's wishes a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Selkirk Community Foundation (Marine Museum) in Bill's memory would be appreciated. God has him in His keeping. We have him in our hearts Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Beverley and the Purvis family. Have many fond memories of Billy from my youth growing up in Selkirk. He was a teacher even then having taught me how to swim in the Selkirk Slough and water ski at Netley Creek. Spent many Summer evenings watching him play baseball. He was a hero to me then as he is now. Farewell my cousin... - Posted by: Jerry and Barbara Finlayson (Cousin) on: Mar 14, 2015

To Bev & Family I used to work for Brad's the restaurant where the guys would come in the morning and have coffee, toast, and alot of conversation. I served him for a long time and we always had quite the giggles with some of the stuff the guys would come up with. He will be missed. Very sad to hear Bill has passed. I really enjoyed the many years we worked together in Tuktoyuktuk in the Artic. He was a very fair and dedicated gentleman who always did his best and expected the same from his crew. I always loved the hunting stories at coffee break. My condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: Don Bean (Friend) on: Mar 11, 2015
