JOHN (JAN) DREXLER August 30, 1935 - March 13, 2015 After a long and courageous battle with many health issues, John spent his last days surrounded by family, and passed away at Victoria Hospital with his wife holding his hand. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Eva, his only child, daughter Jane Drexler (David Gowriluk), the sunshine of his life, grandson Alexander (Lexi) Gowriluk, brother Dr. Jaroslav Drexler (Gisele), nephew Peter Drexler and family, nephew Martin Drexler (Toronto), relatives in Slovakia and Germany, and many friends in Canada and Slovakia. He was predeceased by his parents John and Lenka Drexler. John was born in Slovakia. There he finished his university education, met and married Eva, and started a family with the birth of his daughter Jane. In 1968 the family immigrated to Canada. Starting a new life in Canada was very hard, but after a few years, he was able to find a job in his chosen profession. John worked as an accountant until his retirement at age 65. A memorial reception to celebrate John's life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. A private family ceremony will take place at a later date to inter John's ashes at St. Vital Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the doctors, medical staff, and health care assistants who helped John cope with his health problems. In particular, the family would like to express their thanks to cardiologist Dr. J. Rabson for 20 years of exceptional care, and to family practitioner Dr. W. Van Jaarsveldt. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of John can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
