GLADYS LAVINA PEDRICK (nee ANDERSON) February 24, 1925 - March 14, 2015 After 90 wonderful years, Gladys leaves her loving children Linda (John Wells), Dean (Leslie), Kerry, Tim (Sandy) and Lianne (Phil Rizzuto); grandchildren Stephanie (great-grandson Ewan), Joey (Kelly, great-grandchildren Owen and Emma), Blake, Christina, Scott, Greg, Ben Rizzuto, Kyle, Samantha Rizzuto, Ryan, Craig and Nathaniel; brother Albert, sisters Marjorie and Irene (Len), and sister-in-law Margaret. She was predeceased by her husband Roy, eldest brother Lorne and sister Alice. Gladys was born and raised on a farm near Elkhorn, Manitoba. She taught in a one-room school house as a young woman before making her way to Winnipeg where she began working her life-long magic as a seamstress. She married Roy in 1948, and together they raised their family in the St. Vital home where she lived the rest of her days. She sewed the most beautiful fashions for herself, her family, and friends, as well as countless dance costumes and bridal gowns over the years. Her tremendous style and grace were stitched into every piece she created. Gladys was particularly proud of her Scandinavian roots and was a self-proclaimed Viking. In 1995, she organized and hosted an Anderson family reunion in Winnipeg, and was touched by the effort her siblings and extended families made to attend. She was known for her warm, red kitchen and was always happy to set an extra place at the dinner table. She left her grandchildren with wonderful memories of baking cookies with Grandma, and left her entire family with a collection of comforting recipes that will live on for generations. She lived a vibrant, healthy and grateful life until the end, always enjoying family gatherings (especially bowling parties), her bridge club, and walks in St. Vital Park. Our family would like to sincerely thank Mom's long-time caregiver and good friend Marion Tronrud, as well as the many dedicated friends who visited her often in hospital including Margaret Tapley, Alma Verdonck and Sharon Bauman. In respect of Mom's explicit wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, the immediate family will gather later this year to celebrate and honour her life. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who so desire to make a donation in Gladys' memory to a charity of your choice. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I am sorry to just be hearing about this now Lianne. Although it has been a long time since I lived in Winnipeg I still have so many memories of being in your home. One in particular is of your mom helping me out by making me a crown for a school event that I had forgotten about. She was very kind. Rhonda - Posted by: Rhonda Argue () on: May 16, 2015

  • In the last year or so I have been thinking of your mother, as I had noticed her absence at the fabric store, and wondered how she was doing. (We 'sewers' know it takes a lot in life to stop us from browsing for fabric!) It was my pleasure to help her with fabric selections, and problem solving crafts (like the little kids' chairs!!). She was surprised I knew who she was, and explained it was from attending school w/Kerry, and working w/Lianne.(We are all part of the fabric of the City of St. Vital years) I enjoyed these brief encounters with her; her sparkle and wit, along with her sewing knowledge. Sincere condolences to all of the family. - Posted by: Janice K. () on: Mar 29, 2015

  • It was great honour to work with and enjoy a wonderful person at The Wedding Lounge named Gladys. She was a special person, amazing skills on the sewing machine and more importantly a generous and kind person to everyone she came in contact with. I was off after emergency surgery during our time together, and when I came back to work.... probably too early, she was so insistent that I take a 'lay down' in one of the fitting rooms every afternoon, and she would do the fittings that came along without even disturbing me. I still put a batch of her famous Bran Muffin recipe in the oven once in a while. Leanne, I am almost afraid to say this because my memory is getting selective, but I hope I'm correct in remembering attending your "postponed" wedding due to a snow storm. It was an honour to be invited by your Mom and Dad to be included in this wonderful occasion. My deepest sympathies to you and all your family. I am so glad to see that she lived a long and happy life and I know, as we used to talk about our 'kids' a lot, that she was so proud of you all and I'm sure she was a particularly wonderful Grand-mother. Lots of love. - Posted by: Christine Strutt (Co- Worker and Friend) on: Mar 25, 2015

  • So sorry to hear about your mother. I have many fond memories of always feeling welcome in your home. She was a kind and gracious lady. I was also lucky enough to wear some of her wonderful sewing projects over the years. She was indeed very talented. Love and prayers to you all. - Posted by: Alison Hatton (friend) on: Mar 22, 2015

  • I will always remember her generosity when I stayed @ the Pedrick home. When visiting a coffee pot was always on the stove. Our sincere sympathy to the Pedrick family. Ross & Marlene - Posted by: Ross Anderson (Nephew) on: Mar 21, 2015

  • Dear Lianne and all your family; I do remember your mom as part of the ol' St. Vital neighbourhood as we lived just down the lane. I had knitted a sweater which your mom was kind enough to put a zipper in for me. She was a beautiful seamstress! Just want to wish you and your family my condolences on behalf of myself and my family. May you find comfort from the many memories that will be with you as time goes by. Sincerely, Bonnie Makodanski - Posted by: Bonnie Makodanski (Neighbour) on: Mar 21, 2015

  • The Pedrick family members were pillars of the St. Vital community. My Mom, Isabel, used to play bridge with Gladys and always spoke fondly of her. She lived a great life and will undoubtedly be missed by many. God Bless. - Posted by: Bill Head (Former Neighbour) on: Mar 21, 2015

  • In the sixties I lived on Thorndale with my first husband and Gladys did quite a bit of sewing for me. Lovely seamstress & friend! - Posted by: Myrna Block (former near by neighbour) on: Mar 21, 2015
