Joy was a joy to everyone who had the opportunity to know her. I had the pleasure of working with Joy and also becoming good friends. Joy was an amazing teacher. I had the pleasure of working with Joy at Lord Robert's elementary School quite a few years back. She had such a wonderful spirit, very caring, soft spoken and generous. She was wonderful with her students, very genuine and kind. She will be missed. I am glad I had the opportunity to meet her and get to know her even for just a little bit during my few years at the school. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Anita Posaluko (past co-worker) on: Apr 07, 2015

Joy was a wonderful person as well as a devoted and dedicated teacher. She will always be remembered by her adoring young charges. Joy didn't always side with public opinion, but followed what was truly in her heart and what a huge heart she had! I will miss our long and engaging phone conversations that we shared over the years. - Posted by: Tracy Semmer Kloos (Friend/retired colleague at Wellington School) on: Apr 03, 2015

We lost a light in the world with Joy's passing. No matter what went wrong with her physical health, Joy remained positive and hopeful as always. Never one to complain. Even discussing current events with her she always found a positive story to end on. Even though we have lived far apart for 18 years, we remained good friends. That was easy to do with Joy. She cherished and nurtured her friendships. You will be dearly missed my friend. - Posted by: Susan hawley (Friend) on: Apr 01, 2015

Aunt Joy, There are really too many memories to list here today but I know you are finally at peace. You were such a terrific Aunt to all of us nieces and nephews and you made sure to spend quality time with all of us. I will never forget the trip to Swan with Craig and I and I remember us two driving you nuts in your car as young kids. Mark and Romy's wedding was another classic memory, the dancing (and maybe some drinking by your 3 nephews!) the laughter and great family times that were had. Most importantly, what I will remember from you forever, is your genuine caring and time you had for other people, and showing an interest in their lives before your own. In today's world so many get wrapped up in in our day-to-day world that we forget about trying to be just a plain old kind and caring person, and how much JOY comes from that for ourselves and those we interact with. As a soon to be father of 3 kids, this is a trait I will be sure to pass on to them, and to you Aunt Joy I sincerely thank you for a wonderful life lesson you have passed on to us. With so much Love Paul.... - Posted by: Paul McMillan (Megan, Parker, Finlay and ?) (Nephew) on: Mar 30, 2015

So so very sad to hear this news. She was a kind and caring teacher who had the knack of making every child feel special. I volunteered in her class weekly and saw this first hand. She will be truly missed. I feel privileged that she taught both my children. - Posted by: Jackie Benson (taught my children) on: Mar 28, 2015

I met Joy while we were practice teachers at the same school in Saskatoon. This meeting led to her rooming with one of my Mom's friends while she attended the U of S and a life long friendship. My husband Dave was going to school in Winnipeg at the time so we shared many friends in common. She was in my wedding party and we kept in close contact over the years She was so good at staying in touch and keeping up in everyone's life. I loved her for that. I'll always remember our last day of school phone calls every year. The phone would ring and I knew it would be Joy and I'd wave off my family and the next 3 to 4 hours would be our annual catch up and decompression session. We visited as often as possible in Winnipeg and I even got her out to cottage at Waskesiu one summer. We had a wonderful visit and she got me hooked on crosswords. Although we lived far apart we remained close friends. I will miss her. She was a wonderful friend. - Posted by: Carol and dave Edwards (friend) on: Mar 28, 2015

You were my first grade teacher and you had such an impact on my life. You got me reading so many great books and I won the reading award that year thanks to you. You made me enjoy coming to school every day. My sister used to see you lots at her restaurant. When our youngest daughter was in grade one at Lord Roberts School I had the chance to come and work with Joy and she was one of the nicest teachers our children could have had. Joy was the one that discovered our son Tony's learning problem. Joy was one of the best teachers and one of the sweetest people you would ever want to meet. We are truly very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Dave and Diane Lindsay and Family (Joy was one of the best teacher ever for our children, she taught our daughter Stephanie and Tony an) on: Mar 24, 2015
