AMARO SILVA It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Amaro Silva on March 27, 2015 at the young age of 57. He held many portfolios and his accomplishments were many. After political life Amaro became the Executive Director of the Better Business Bureau. He brought the BBB in to the 21st century and is responsible for the success it eventually became. Amaro's children were the light of his life. He loved them with all his heart and treasured every moment spent with them. Amaro will be lovingly remembered by daughter Emily, son Thomas, fiancé Carla, siblings Elizabeth, Nelson, Wilson (Rhonda) nephews Marc and Michael and his many friends. He was an incredible man. I was in the hospital in the same semi private room for a few weeks in February. He had amazing stories to tell me about his life as a city councillor and Executive Director of the Better Business Bureau. He Loved all of his family very much. He had an amazing view of life, and was an honor knowing Amaro Silva for a short time before his passing. Rest in Peace my Good Friend. - Posted by: Todd Solar (friend) on: Jun 06, 2015

I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know quite well, both Amaro and his assistant Bill McKay at city hall during the various arena debates. Amaro saw the potential of a multipurposed structure for the community rather than 3 or 4 venues controlled by different groups and costing 2 to 3 times more collectively. So young to be gone, we will miss them. - Posted by: Paul Sveinson (Business Associate) on: Apr 08, 2015

I remember growing up with Amaro on McDermot Avenue in the West End -- a great place to be a kid in the early '60s! He was very proud of the work his dad did on the DEW line, and very protective of his younger sister Elizabeth -- even when she messed with his train set! I never knew what a 'ketchup sandwich' was until Amaro clued me in! Rest in peace, my friend! - Posted by: Larry Roberts (Friend) on: Apr 02, 2015

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his children and family. There wasn't an election that he wasn't involved in. Many memories of various campaigns too young for him to pass. - Posted by: Barbara Tascona (Political ) on: Mar 31, 2015

We are very saddened to hear of Amaro Silva’s passing. Amaro was a valued member of the Board of Directors of the Convention Centre Corporation, serving two terms from 1993 – 1998 and again from 2007 – 2012. Amaro was a strong advocate of the Winnipeg Convention Centre and his knowledge, insight and commitment to the Board were always very much appreciated. When Amaro was City Councillor for the Daniel Macintyre ward, he exercised decisive leadership in the formation of the Spence Neighbourhood Council, to consult with the community in identifying priorities and allocating funding from the first Winnipeg Development Agreement. By ensuring that a body truly representative of the neighbourhood got into the process earlier than City planners initially planned, we were able to develop the independence and kind of relationship with the City that led to housing revitalization beginning in such a way that its effects are ongoing. - Posted by: Larry Gregan (Friend) on: Mar 31, 2015

Sorry to learn of Amaro's untimely passing. It was a pleasure serving with Amaro during our time together on City Council. He worked hard for his community and his City. Sorry I am unable to be at the service due to a prior commitment. My condolences to Amaro's family in their time of bereavement. - Posted by: Jae Eadie (former City Council colleague) on: Mar 31, 2015
