Don was predeceased by his mother Kathleen (Holmes) Meadows, father Claude, stepmother Jenny, sister Dorothy Smith and brothers Tom (Gloria), Ed (Muriel) and Bob. Don was born in Minnedosa on February 6, 1931. He completed high school, was active in the development of Camp Wannakumbac and in 1953 entered the Bachelor of Science Agriculture program at University of Manitoba, graduating in 1957. He served as an Ag Rep in Teulon and Baldur before embarking on a trip around the world where he met the love of his life, Leslie Banks of New Zealand, on the ship returning to Canada. Don married Leslie on October 24, 1959 at St. Jude's Anglican Church, Winnipeg. After working with the Manitoba Federation of Agriculture and Cooperation for two years, he and Leslie returned to New Zealand where their daughter, Katharine, was born. Don and family returned to Canada where he became the Ag Rep in Carberry in July of 1961. Sons, Jonathan and Michael were born and daughter, Laura, was adopted while the family lived in Carberry. Don left Carberry to take the Diploma in Extension program in Saskatoon in 1967, after which he became the Coordinator of Community Affairs in Manitoba in 1968. In 1971, the family moved to Southern Africa when Don took a position through CIDA at the Lesotho campus of the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland where he worked with the staff to upgrade their educational skills. Don returned to Winnipeg in 1973 and worked with the Department of Education and then the Faculty of Agriculture until his retirement in 1990. Over the years, Don and Leslie travelled extensively, visiting all ten Canadian Provinces, most of the Northern United States, New Zealand and Australia. Don was a kind, gentle, but strong man who will be missed by all whose lives he has touched. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Don's family doctor, Dr. Cam Lowden and the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff of Victoria Hospital who always treated Don with dignity and warmth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to: www.thomsoninthepark.com

It's in the spring of 1963 that I met Don in Carberry at the Ag Rep office. I had been hired as a summer assistant and lived with Peggy and Barry Hood. The following year I became the extension Home Economist and worked with Don in the area. Don was a great mentor. He was such a gentle soul. He had a great way of working and problem solving with the local folk. I learned a lot from observing him interact with people. My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Rita (Lemoine) Lecuyer (co-worker in Carberry in 1963-1965) on: Apr 21, 2015

Sorry to have missed Don's funeral. Donald was a good friend while we were attending University - Faculty of Agriculture in the '50s. I was a year ahead of Don graduating in 1956. Our paths didn't cross much after that. We were active in the SCM (Student Christian Movement) at the University. It was through SCM that I met my wife Margaret. Margaret died in 2010. Life is certainly different after a long time together. That is no doubt felt by you and family at this time. May God's comfort and richest blessings be with you at this time .........from Bob Burton - Posted by: Robert(Bob) Burton (friend) on: Apr 18, 2015
