NOELLA LAFOND On Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Morris Red River Valley Lodge, our mother, Noëlla, aged 92 years, passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Bernard Lafond. She leaves her nine children to cherish her memory: Yvette (Luc Sabourin), Lorraine (Grant Dunsmore), Marcel (Sylvia), Louise (Roger Desrosiers), Claude (Marlene), Yolande (Robert Valcourt), Gisèle (Lorne Rosenthal), Colette (Martin Welby), and Nicole. She has 27 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Marie-Ange Ayotte Boulet, André Marion, Alfred Marion (Estelle), and Sr. Yolande Marion. As a young and devoted farm wife, Mom worked tirelessly, but through it all, she always managed to maintain an incredible "joie de vivre". Mom's passion was her family. She always had time for her kids and her grandkids that needed some of her special attention. Mom had a wonderful way of expressing her unconditional love, unfailing support while never judging or criticizing. Her beautiful blue eyes spoke volumes of her love of family and of life itself. She was happiest when our family gathered together. She was the best of mothers, and has left us with a legacy of memories that will forever endure. Mom was the product of, and testament to, all of the good and endearing qualities of the Catholic faith that she was raised in. For those of us left behind to grieve her passing, she provided a flawless and shining example of how a full, rich life could be lived with quiet pride, dignity and honour, unconditional love and humour when all else failed. While she may have followed Bernard's lead in the business of farming in their epic 64 years of marriage together, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Mom was the innermost sanctum, the axis of rotation and the stickiest of glue that held the family together. In those days, everyone worked hard on the farm but there was a very clear division of labour. Mom looked after the kids, cooked and cleaned and scrubbed (and scrubbed some more) and washed and sewed and gardened and canned and froze vegetables until the cows came home (which by the way they did every night). She did it all with an honest, toiling, pioneer spirit, boundless energy and efficiency, a positive attitude, and always with that beautiful gentle and genuine smile. Mom's generous spirit made it that the door was always open and everybody was welcome. There was always room for one more at the table, whether it was one (or many) of the family who had just dropped by for a visit, extended family, visitors that passed by, or the thrashing crew. A meal that had been prepared for two somehow effortlessly materialized into a banquet for 12! A sincere thank you to all the staff at the Red River Valley Lodge for their tender loving care during Mom's six year stay. Even though Mom was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, she still managed to touch the lives of the staff with her sparkling eyes, her infectious smile, and her firm hand grip. Cremation has taken place. The funeral mass will be held in the St. Jean-Baptiste Catholic Church at 4:00 p.m. on April 8, 2015, with power point presentation and eulogy at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Rest in peace, Mom. "Il y a longtemps que je t'aime, jamais je ne t'oublierai." Arrangements Entrusted to: Morris Funeral Home 204-746-2451
