Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I remember Fr Martin from when I was around five or six. My family had just switched to Holy Cross Parish and felt so welcomed by this loving priest. My young and bubbly spirit instantly took a liking to him and his youth-loving nature. He would always have the parish kids go up with him during the opening procession of mass. I remember going to Family Adoration (a regular Friday evening tradition he started, which has sadly lost most of its spark after his passing) and hiding under his over-cloak with my siblings and friends. He had a distinct caramel smell about him all the time. Whenever he would lift up the monstrance for the blessing at the end, I recall always getting this warm chill. After mass and/or adoration the kids of the Church would go and get high-fives from him. He passed away on April 7, my sister's birthday. I always wonder how she can still be excited about it. I remember the moment when my principal relayed the news to my elementary school (Holy Cross School, the parish's neighbour) over the intercom. It was a hot afternoon in Grade 5. He asked us to stand and pray an Our Father for his family and his soul. I couldn't stop crying and to this day feel as though a piece of me is missing. Even though his passing is very difficult for me and for many, we have to remember what he would always say... "Keep smiling!" God bless his soul, and everyone affected by his passing from this life to the next. We love you dearly, Fr Martin! - Posted by: Ella Kautz (Friend, parishioner) on: Apr 07, 2019

  • I am so sorry to hear of Father Bradbury's passing. What an amazing person. We met him at my uncle's funeral where I thought "what a great priest". I loved his natural way. He then ended up doing my father's funeral, my mother's funeral 10 months later and then my aunt's this past June 2014. I am so lucky to have met and talked with him. Rest in peace. Thank you for all your compassion. Sincerely. Janice Samimi - Posted by: Janice Samimi (friend) on: Apr 16, 2015

  • Dearest Father Martin, I will never forget your words of encouragement, during our many conversations of two people with a lung disease. I prayed for you as you prayed for me. You were a blessing to so many and remain so. - Posted by: Patti Moorcroft-Tasker (Friend ) on: Apr 14, 2015

  • When Father Martin came to our parish (just before Holy Cross) he was the perfect man at the perfect time for all the small miracles he performed. He became a friend, a mentor and healer for our community. The young adults loved him for his free spirit and gift of conversation. Father Martin presided at the renewal of our vows for our 25th wedding anniversary. He is going to be missed on this earth but he is another angel in heaven watching over us all. God Bless Father Martin and his family. Peace of Christ be with you all. Our hearts and prayers are with you. With love. - Posted by: Wendy and Joe Krupnik (Parishioners before Holy Cross) on: Apr 13, 2015

  • Fr. Martin shared his time with me to talk about what he wanted to see Holy Cross Church have to serve the poor and needs for fellowship of the parish. He was a man who had wonderful ideas that involved the talents of people in his parish. He loved children and youth, but never limited his love towards anyone who needed it. I will do as he requested to push to complete his project to redo the kitchen and basement hall in his memory. - Posted by: James D. • Very, very sorry for your loss. A priest, a gentlemen and a very good friend. My HERO The first time I ever met him was in my store in Winnipeg. He had come in to get few prints for his awesome Holy Cross church. My take was he was working for God, my question was then if we could design and print business cards for him? He agreed. His business card now to safeguard. Quite sure God does not need any introduction to Fr. Martin Marcel, Owner, nearby The UPS Store - Posted by: Marcel Hebert P.Eng. (Friend) on: Apr 12, 2015
