ARTHUR HEIN Peacefully, after two years of bravely battling cancer, with friends at his side, on Tuesday morning, April 14, 2015, Art (Artie) entered his pain free journey to reunite with his parents. Born on June 22, 1941 in Rudolfsfelden, Germany, Wartbrucken to Julius and Ernestine, who have predeceased him, Art immigrated to Canada on March 24, 1953 and settled in Selkirk on March 27. On December 15, 1966, Art proudly became a Canadian Citizen. On December 31, 2001, after 37 years of service at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre, first as a farm labourer and then as a Service Worker in the mobile department, Art retired. A quiet gentle soul with a sense of humour and quick wit, Art made many friends with his chuckle and smile. Remembering Art are his cousins Freda, Arnold, Evelyn, Betty and their families, close friends Martha and Joe Schiak; many friends he made through work, his political involvement, Union activism; his McD coffee buddies, and one special devoted friend who helped and walked side by side with "Artie" these last two years. Thanks are extended to staff and residents of Woodland Courts who welcomed Art and made his last four months pleasurable and to the Home Care staff whose gentle care Art appreciated. In keeping with Art's wishes, a memorial service will be officiated by his friend, Pastor Jim Vickers on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, MB, with interment at the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery, urn bearer is Art's friend Lorne. Donations may be made in Art's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Rest in Peace Our Friend.
