HAROLD MCLEAN It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to Harold McLean. Surrounded by loved ones, Harold left us on April 23rd 2015 in Ste. Anne Hospital. A personable and vivacious man, he was known for his big heart and generosity. He was hard working and always put the needs of others ahead of his own, despite his own struggles. An endearing son to George and Jean McLean, Harold was born in Minnedosa, MB on May 18th 1949, spending his childhood on the farm near Rapid City. Harold's happiest days were spent surrounded by friends and family doing the things he loved most, camping, curling and playing ball. He took pride in his yard, loved his home, and cherished his community of St. Adolphe. He was a devoted husband to Irène (née Préfontaine), caring father to Chantelle (Dwayne), Kristian (Guylène) and Stéphanie, and a loving and adored grandfather to Ella, Eric, Amélie, Justin and Derrick. Harold is also survived by his parents George and Jean, siblings Craig (Sheila) and Janice (Barry), along with his in-laws Marc (Eva), Luc (Ida), Gil, Claire, Jean, Béatrice (Eugène), Léo (Jocelyne), Rachelle, Janine (Kevin) and Gisèle (Jean-Guy). He was predeceased by Monique, Victor and Eveline Préfontaine. Harold leaves behind a great number of nephews, nieces, friends and a special Goddaughter. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour on Sunday, May 3rd 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at Pioneer Hall in St. Adolphe. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Ste. Anne Hospital. Irene and Family, Sorry to hear of your loss, it is so often we hear of such a loss of the great people in our lives due to such an uncurable illness that many battle. He fought a long hard battle and unfortunately lost. Cherish the moments of that wonderful smile and generous loving soul he had and hold them close to you. A man of knowledge and happiness, will be missed by all. I know I will miss calling and seeing how he was doing and chit chatting about a work he had passion for. - Posted by: Colleen Riddoch (Co-Worker/Friend) on: Apr 28, 2015

It seems only the good people are taken far too early in this world. I first met Harold at my aunt and uncle's in St Adolphe. He then bought a cabin 2 doors down from us in Lac Du Bonnet. Then we became teammates for about 10 years in curling. Harold taught me so many life lessons by curling with him for the last 10 years. He taught me that it's just a game and to have fun instead of lose my temper or get frustrated. He also taught me by example to be a better person. Harold by far is one of the nicest honest men this world had. He is truly going to be missed by me and the rest of his friends and family. You cannot replace a man like Harold Mclean but he will forever be in my heart and mind. - Posted by: Cody Gustafson (Friend, Neighbour, Teammate) on: Apr 27, 2015

Anything for a friend, that's who he was and will always be remembered as. Such close friends with my parents with the many trips, lunches "man dates" and common battles fought togetger. There are very few people my dad talks as fondly about. Harold was one of a kind and will be sadly missed but happily remembered by so many. Our thoughts are with you all. Harold enjoy your lunches with mom! - Posted by: Clifton Dorge (family friend ) on: Apr 26, 2015

It is at this most heartfelt moment that we offer Irene, Kristian, Stef, Chantelle and your families our deepest condolences for your tremendous loss. Harold, you have been my best friend for almost 44 years. We were roommates, we worked together, we were neighbors for 17 years at Lee River. Our children are the same age. We have had so many great times together, that I will always be thankful and happy to have had you in my life. You are missed terribly. But now, my friend, the pains and suffering are gone but you will ALWAYS be remembered. Until we meet again, Gil. and Yvette. - Posted by: Gil.Desrosiers (old friend) on: Apr 26, 2015

We were saddened to learn of Harold's passing. We both grew up with Harold and went to Rapid City School togther. We have fond memories from those years as well as the time we spent with Harold and some of his family at our home in Orleans, Ontario a little over ten years ago. It was also great to renew acquaintenances at Rapid City's 125th anniversary. We always considered Harold to be a great friend. Irene and family, I can't tell you how saddened I was to learn of Harold's passing. Harold visited mom on a few occasions in the hospital and he was like a ray of sunshine when he would enter the room. Always with a smile and an infectious laugh, mom and I always felt uplifted after a visit from Harold. The friendship that Harold and you shared with my parents was a gift. Trips together, Bomber and Jets game, lunches...all fond memories for my parents, their house full of photos of the times you all had together. We often joked that Harold was one of dads boyfriends, spending so much time together. Losing Harold will be hard on dad, but he will be consoled knowing that he and mom will be watching over us all together. You are all in my thoughts - Kyla - Posted by: Kyla Dorge-Ray (Friend of family) on: Apr 25, 2015

"Only the good die young" was written for people like Harold. We've been friends since the mid-70s. In the early 80s we curled together and even hunted deer together a couple times. I'll cherish two particular memories...our trip to the bonspiel in Hibbing, MN and winning one of the MCA Bonspiel events circa 1984. My sincerest sympathies to my friend Irene who is the kind of nice person we should all aspire to be. My sincerest sympathies to Chantelle and Kristian and their families, Stephanie and to all of Harold's family and friends. RIP Harold...you get to play in the longest running bonspiel in existence now! André - Posted by: André (Long time friend.) on: Apr 25, 2015
